Overrunning Deliveries Procedure and Park&Loop
The overrunning deliveries procedure(cutting off) is all about the individual,Park&Loop is all about the pair.
How does it work in your office?
Do both of you approach management?
Does the most senior?
What happens if one thinks it can be done but the other doesn't?
Who gets conducted/tested/bullied if it all goes pear shaped?

Re: Overrunning Deliveries Procedure and Park&Loop
This happened with us today. There is only myself and maybe 3 others who will not work over our time all of the time - so when you tell the useless DIM it's a pretty big thing to him.
We all know packets are our main source of profit, so we know that in the logical world of Royal Fail we should leave packets behind and concentrate on the mail
Therefore today we left a york and a half of packets, and just took the mail. We both agreed that would take us up to our time and both confronted the DIM to tell him. After a few threats we walked off and threw a couple more out to make up for the time he spent waffling and making up new rules at us.
We got back bang on time, his 2 favorites took the packets out for extra brownie points, and probably double overtime, and nothing else was said. To be honest what can be said? They can't force you to work extra hours, especially when we all told there was to be no pressure paid this Xmas in our office.
No one gets tested here as that would mean work for the DIM but yes we get bullied. We don't get conducted because frankly there's no reason to do it if you work your hours and there's clearly too much. Consequently one of us will probably spend a few days next week at another office (where we will again only work to our time and be more trouble than help to them), the other will be ignored by the DIM for his customary 3 days, and we'll be bitched about to his favorites.
Do we care? No, and if we did - well, we know where the grievance forms are.

Nice story. Completely irrelevant to the OP.WornOutPosty wrote:This happened with us today. There is only myself and maybe 3 others who will not work over our time all of the time - so when you tell the useless DIM it's a pretty big thing to him.

Re: Overrunning Deliveries Procedure and Park&Loop
in my office its the one with the balls who does the talking, many are scared to death of cutting off(i have worked with many) so i always do the talking but sometimes it gets frustrating when your partner is silent & it looks all me but they dont want to work over either! Delivery is kind of like getting an empty half pint glass & trying to fill it with a pint of water! Oh i forgot to say while being b&h at the same time!

Re: Overrunning Deliveries Procedure and Park&Loop
You'll only both approach the manager if you both are wanting to work to your time. If only one person wants to work to time then it's usually that person who will be made to approach the manager and I suppose that's fair.
If one thinks it can be done and the other doesn't then there is trouble. I really believe this is one of the reasons park and loop was introduced. Getting colleagues trying to outpace the other or not wanting to be deemed lazy. It takes a lot more hassle to work to time when anouther person is involved, rather than the old way of working, on your own. Hence less cut offs.
Of course, lets not pretend, there are some genuinely slow people working at Royal Mail though age and illness and they can't help it. Most people can relate to working with someone like that and perhaps cannot complete on every occasion they are paired . However, under Park and loop, if you are the one working to your time you'll get under the managers skin.
So if one person thinks it can be done and you don't then you really need to get your facts right. It could backfire on you if the line manager has the inclination to performance test you.
Who gets the hassle? That's easy. Whoever is causing the manager a headache at that time, justified or not
Fishtank raises an interesting point. The overrunning delivery procedure is not fit for the way we work and the CWU should have been on this since park and loop started

Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one

Re: Overrunning Deliveries Procedure and Park&Loop
What we do on P/L is that if either of us wants to cut off , we both do it.
We don't ask the DOM that we are cutting off, WE TELL HIM WE ARE
Makes things a lot easier for the postie.
The DOM tries playing one against the other and all the bullying tactics, saying mail is down, he says the floater(who comes in 30 mins earlier and takes no meal relief )can finish on time blah blah.
The DOM then tries to get the partner to finish the round off but that means a 20 minute drive to bring the one cutting off back ,then another 20 minutes to get back to your round and then finish both walks but we just say no and walk off.

They can do lots of performance tests if they say they are testing the duty or checking the accuracy of the figures but we all know they are playing the man,not the ball.halfull wrote:when you say performance test you exactly how can they do that? i only know one test do you know others?

Whatever falls under non culpable inefficiency. In our DO they time bagging up, throwing in and IPS. They spy on you on delivery under the guise of health and safety. If they are really bored they can time you on delivery but that's rare, that involves actual work.halfull wrote: when you say performance test you exactly how can they do that? i only know one test do you know others?
Do you want this bullying or do you just accept it's easier to complete? That's how it works at RM and if you are in anyway timid you're f****d.

Re: Overrunning Deliveries Procedure and Park&Loop
just what i thought they cannot performance test you. The only agreed test is a one minute prep test on an empty frame. All the figures against duty rubbish is iwt which is NOT an individual performance test.Pat Ostman wrote:Whatever falls under non culpable inefficiency. I'm not really sure what point you are trying to make to be honest. Do you really think that the one minute test is the only performance issue they can highlight?

Re: Overrunning Deliveries Procedure and Park&Loop
testing to what agreed standard? the only AGREED test is a one minute prep test on an empty frame & they cannot check for accuracy. Im sure if they could "performance test" us on speed of bagging up, doing ips, portering mail, emptying dropbags, delivering mail, delivering parcels, filling out 739's, loading vans or even taking a dump im sure they would not let ANYBODY cutoff anywhere! They know all the other crap besides a one min prep test is a waste of time & cannot stop us cutting off!fishtank wrote:They can do lots of performance tests if they say they are testing the duty or checking the accuracy of the figures but we all know they are playing the man,not the ball.halfull wrote:when you say performance test you exactly how can they do that? i only know one test do you know others?

highlight or do something about? i dont think the one min prep test is the only agreed test i KNOW it is! I tell you what ill wait here an you go & find me one, just one case of a postie being conducted for failing one of these "performance tests" you are speaking about! Give me details of how it all went stage by stage, ill look forward to reading it!Pat Ostman wrote:Semantics.halfull wrote:just what i thought they cannot performance test you.
