Can i refuse to change walk
I am a floater and on mon came in too do the walk i was covering and the regular was there i was told he changed his day off because he wanted thu off dom says i should cover other walk i didnt want to as it meant losing regular partner and working with slow guy who does it a different way.i insisted that the person who changed his day off shd change dom then says he can not do that walk as he does not know it!(although he used to drive in that area all the time!) after arguing dom called me in office and says i am a bad influence on the office! we have had no resign and the person who would not change has less years service than me i gave in and just changed but i have been told it is happening again on sat! as i am floater and i am down to do that job surely regulars should change asked rep and he was not sure although he did say it is a bit unfair on me! AM I WITHIN MY RIGHTS TO REFUSE TO CHANGE allocated walk for the day and can i insist on resign as i have more years than a lot of people who have on walks this has been happening for 2 yrs now surely this is wrong?

Re: Can i refuse to change walk
you cant refuse to change that would lead to a conduct code charge as part of your duty 318 will state "as directed" or words to that effect so refusing would be seen as not following a reasonable request(it is a reasonable request he is asking you to do he is not forcing you to work longer than your hours or do something you are not trained to do, just asking you to move to another role which you are trained to do so it is fair, though it is not a fair request by any means if it is happening on a regular basis) you can and should however put in grievance about the mattermlw wrote:I am a floater and on mon came in too do the walk i was covering and the regular was there i was told he changed his day off because he wanted thu off dom says i should cover other walk i didnt want to as it meant losing regular partner and working with slow guy who does it a different way.i insisted that the person who changed his day off shd change dom then says he can not do that walk as he does not know it!(although he used to drive in that area all the time!) after arguing dom called me in office and says i am a bad influence on the office! we have had no resign and the person who would not change has less years service than me i gave in and just changed but i have been told it is happening again on sat! as i am floater and i am down to do that job surely regulars should change asked rep and he was not sure although he did say it is a bit unfair on me! as for insisting on a resign, if you have gone through your revision and not had a resign then you need to push your rep to insist on it, if he wont then go over his head to the area rep

Thanks as regular guy refused to change who is in wrong me or him?just want what is fair so if someone works there day off or changes day off it seems fair that they should change and yes this does happen regularly i do not think i am being unreasonable to do the job on my floating duty as i change 5 days a week as it is. As for resign i will push again and if no luck will have 2 go over his head

completely agree with you, you are being treated unfairly, just dont get yourself into trouble by refusing to change, just say ok but am not happy and get on with it, and put in a grievance about it every time it happens, it will soon stop if you keep doing it

Re: Can i refuse to change walk
I would have refused, he wanted the savour he should have swapped or at least had the decency to ask you. On that day it was Your duty and not his. At my office they have to ask the floater if he says no then it's their problem. Swapping his day off does not fall under operational needs. Ask you dom if you swap your day off does that mean you can kick him off his duty so you can do it, if not asky why you're being treated differently.

a refusal could quite legitimately lead to a conduct code chargecoxie wrote:I would have refused, he wanted the savour he should have swapped or at least had the decency to ask you. Possibly but you are allowed a 15 cooling off period are you not why not push them they may well pick on others not good but may make you all take them on in the end!zx135 wrote:a refusal could quite legitimately lead to a conduct code chargecoxie wrote:I would have refused, he wanted the savour he should have swapped or at least had the decency to ask you. Re: Can i refuse to change walk
When asked to work day off in the rotation I'm in, in the better days {cannot say good old days}, we always asked the floater if she minded, if she did not want to do another round we did not work our days off. A lot of the time she said doing another round made a change for her she did not mind. What I'm trying to say is that it would be common courtesy to ask the floater. Keep the floaters on your side, as at some point we all need a little favour done at some time. :

Re: Can i refuse to change walk
yes i agree unfortunately they never ask me when they work there day off if i do not mind changing i am just told to change by dom , i think this is unfair and i believe i am being treated unfairly by dom i just need to know if i am within my rights to insist that the person working-changing day off changes not me , now christmas is here i have 2 drive most days because people are working day off surely this is wrong? dom says i have a lot of experience of driving and it is suitability!! Getting fed up with this now might take this further as also no resign on cards

Re: Can i refuse to change walk
Your rep should be sorting this out for you. If he doesn't then tell him you're going to go above him to area or branch. Your round is your round on their day off. There is such a thing as operational needs and then there's taking the piss.
