Busted yesterday for being over the limit, now my question is, will I lose my job? My job title is postman/ with occasional driving, I think, was a few years back now. To be fair I've had enough of the place, so it would be a good way out, just need work up until xmas really, so be as honest with your answers as you want, just don't give me a bunch of preachy bull crap, I've already had enough of that from the mrs!

During my induction just a few weeks ago, the HR woman said it was likely that someone would be found a role that did not involve driving.

We have had several over the last few months, we are on the park and loop system, one was the driver of the pairing, he just swapped over with someone else, another was a manager, it doesn't seem to matter it seems.

Like I said been with RM for a few years now, and other than the driving test never been asked to be a driver, the most I've ever done in an RM van was move it across the park lot cuz it was in the way.
The only thing is that im not been made permanent yet, so think I could be let go as soon as I tell the DOM, think the only thing that's going in my favour is that its the Christmas madness at the moment and they need everyone, but like I said, if I can be kept on till xmas or maybe a few week after I don't care to be honest anyway.

You state that you are a postman with occasional driving what is not clear if you are now part of a delivery which incorpoartes 2 in a van oryour signed duty is a walk. If you are part of a delivery which requires 2 in a van the next point to consider if you are a nominated driver and are in receipt of a driving allowance. If this is not the case then I would think the likelyhood of you losing your job would not be considered. The next step is your Contract Of Employment and if this states a postman then your dismissal would not be considered unless this has been changed since the new delivery method of 2 in a van. No my office doesn't do that 2 to a van thing yet, we just go out on our own, be it by bike or on foot. Yes the job I applied for was postman with occasional driving, never been asked to drive, and I don't think it states anywhere on my contract that I need to drive? Yeah my contract just says my job title is Postman/Postwomen.

Well, I certainly haven't. If you're going to come on a public forum and admit to a crime like that, be prepared for people to rebuke you for it!

If your wife / kids were killed by a drink driver who 'got unlucky', would you still stick up for him or would you be an 'asshole' and perhaps be more open to a bit of 'preachy bullshit'?

Yeah but people more people die on the roads as a result of no drink driving involved at all, its just when someone has been drinking that its all a fall back on to that fact! If your wife /kids were killed by someone completely sober it would be an accident, but if the person had been drinking it would be because of that!

Yeah but people more people die on the roads as a result of no drink driving involved at all, its just when someone has been drinking that its all a fall back on to that fact! If your wife /kids were killed by someone completely sober it would be an accident, but if the person had been drinking it would be because of that!
