This agreement has to be ratified by both the PEC of the CWU and the Royal Mail board.
"The proposed agreement is also subject to approval by the Royal Mail plc board."
So even if the Pec accept the agreement, Royal Mail do not have to.
If the agreement gets past both those hurdles, then it will be subject to approval by us.

Not only are we nearer to some back pay and a pay rise and it's associated terms and conditions. But best of all "Royal Mail shares were up 1.4% to 588p in late morning trading – close to their record high of 590.5p." I can't begin to tell you, as a share holder, the relief this news brings over the Christmas period. I shall be able to get that turkey for "Tiny Tim" and the family. Thank you one and all.

A proposed agreement has been reached between the Communication Workers Union and Royal Mail on pay, pensions and other issues.

The deal lifts the threat of industrial action over Christmas, Royal Mail said.

A joint statement issued in October, when the union called off a strike, said an agreement would include an improved pay and pensions deal.

Royal Mail was privatised earlier this year and employees were given shares in the company.

The privatisation was opposed by the union and the share offer was seen as an attempt to smooth labour relations.

Ballot 'remains valid'
The CWU said in a statement the agreement would now be considered by its executive and then its members.

"Details of the proposed agreement will be made available following the conclusion of the meeting of the union's postal executive," it added.

Both sides agreed that a recent ballot for industrial action "remained valid".

But Royal Mail added in a statement to the stock market: "The CWU has confirmed that there will be no disruption through industrial action during the ratification process of the proposed agreement, including the whole of the Christmas trading period.

"An announcement on the content of the proposed agreement will be made when it is ratified by the union's executive committee.

"The proposed agreement is also subject to approval by the Royal Mail plc board."

The company said it had come to an agreement with the union in principle over pay, legal protections, industrial stability and pensions.

Heard the roumour mill last night at work was in full,swing makes me chuckle how many posties were up,in arms over agreement slagging cwu off over it despite the fact no one has seen or heard it all sorts of horror stories from no back pay to a lump,sum of £100 personally as long as our terms are protected I don't give a monkeys

exactly this,at least 5 years protected terms and conditions,no attack on pensions.i couldnt care less about a pay rise,or lump sum(we are still owed £200 from the last agreement in our office).

Too right they could and in times past most definitely would but now Royal Mail is a company listed on the stock market and just as shares have seen a rise in the last couple of days they could and in my opinion will crash big style if there was a double cross and the inevitable industrial action.

Yup as much as I am/was totally against privatisiation it has done us a favour in a way. Now the RM execs are answerable to the shareholders and they don't put up with a lot of crap. I guess Moya shot herself in the hoof a bit there didn't she!
