Suspended for swearing at the DOM

Last Tuesday our DOM turned up for work in a Porsche Carrera 4, not a new one to be fair but still not a cheap car. Anyway, during the WTL meeting he announced that SA was being lapsed and he's been getting Saturday staff in to cover it. This was too much for one 25+ year veteran who had his say and ended by calling the DOM a f****** idiot. OK, that was wrong, something acknowledged by the bloke in question.

When we went back to the floor the postman was called in and after a brief meeting he was suspended. Bizarrely he was then sent to another office to do a delivery and was asked to do the same the following day (yet another office), which he refused, instead going sick. He's now on pre-arranged leave and according to those closer to him than me thinks from what management have told him that he'll be out the door soon.

It seems a bit OTT for the DOM considering the way others talk to him including one that continually talks back and refuses to do what's asked - i.e. to go on the sorting, preferring instead to wander the office with a clip board claiming he's doing the aggregates.

So has this bloke got a real problem or is this being taken too far by a vindictive DOM?

To be fair, I think the DOM was giving the 2 of them space - a cooling off...

The postie in question should have properly apologised and taken his punishment (in another office for a a few days).

Just because some people get away with certain things does not mean that someone is not gong to cop it one day...

It depends on previous and good record and a good Rep and understanding manager. An idiot is not exactly the worst thing to be called... But humiliation and undermining of a manager in public is not good.

I have had proper stand up's to two of our doms in my time with RM, inc swearing into each others faces, we walked away and sorted it the next morning by Pistols at Dawn ( wasn't Dawn's fault but she got in the way )

arguments happen all the time, as long as both parties get their point put across and no physical violence happens I can't see any problem with it, unless of course it is happening often,

The fact that day he announced that there was no more overtime was the day he first turned up in it. Nothing to do with envy hantsman, just wasn't very nice for people who rely on a few extra hours seeing a manager turn up in a car probably paid for by a nice bonus for saving a few quid.

Aggression is the key.
Royal Mail will throw the book at him if they believe that his attitude was in any way threatening.

I was suspended a few years back for calling DOM a w*nker. suspended for 2 weeks on full pay. got a 2 year warning. that was it. mind you might be a bit stricter now

if the boot was on the other foot, and he said something like i'm giving the SA hours to the Saturday guys and all you F**king Idiots can like it or lump it, i am pretty sure that some people in your office would be pushing for him to get hung drawn and quartered, so unfortunately your mate is in a bit of trouble, id advise him to speak to the rep or even the area rep asap

I thought it was common practice for punishment short of dismissal to be having to work in a small office some miles away for a year or two ,
the equivalent of the Naughty Room on here being one of the main purposes of SPDOs.
