Hi Dear,
I just completed my 1st six month fixed term contract and royal mail has sent me continuous employment contract which is again fixed term temporary but it this time is 5 months (instead of 6 month). I want to know that is this routine or they have made mistake? Should I contact union rep or Manager.
Thanks a lot.

no its standard. Shouldnt be but it is, took me 1 year to get a permanent, took another Colleague 2, primarily because he made a few errors. Just keep your nose clean, chances are after 5 months, they may extend to permanent, they may not. But very standard, so dont worry.

Is your office due a revision in the next few months? Don't want to worry you, but it could be that if it is, then RM are covering their backs in case hours need to be taken out after a revision. If not then you have nothing to lose in asking why 5 instead of 6 months. If anything that shows you're keen.xalugg wrote:Hi Dear,

You should be ok with Royal Mail and if you don't have revision (ie the office shared van sharing with park and loop) then you could lose you job if they make necessary cuts, but there will be other leavers as well ie early retirement, new job, pregnancy, death, lottery winner, misconduct, etc. I wouldn't worry too much about it, but you need to be aware of the situation.
