Cutting off

How the hell can we predict where we are going to cut off during the busy periods over Christmas with all these parcels ?
This week we had 6 sacks of small parcels and 2 yorks of big parcels in our van on P/L this week on Wednesday and Thursday and our finish time was 70 mins difference due to writing put more 739's on one of the days.
How can we predict who will be in and who isn't
If you are cutting off and have a guess where you will be at cut off time and you are wrong with your guess can you bring what you haven't delivered
back?
There is a problem at our office because our DOM oversees other offices and the covering ones in our office haven't a clue and when you ring up you dont know who is going to be there

Under normal circumstances, if correct procedures have been followed no conduct action will be taken against individuals if it is not possible to deliver all the mail by their scheduled finish time.

I would advise contacting the delivery office manager the minute it becomes apparent that you will not be able to complete your delivery.

morning you must tell dom or who every is running the office that your duty can not be done in the time given you then leave the amount for that time in the frame and dom has got get someone to do it its happen in my office and thats how we told to do it by the area rep it also help the duty involved is done by one of our best opg who does not take the p*** so dom ok it the opg was making a point our rounds are uneven which the dom knows!!!

The problem is if you guess wrong and have time left. Yes it is possible to slow down but make sure you do not go home early as they will have you for wilful delay. I would put the onus on the manager to tell you what to leave on the frame then if you still cant complete, do as Fish said, call him about an hour before your finish time and tell him you will be bringing back the surplus. If he has made the decision on what to leave behind then basically you cannot be done for wilful delay.

Maybe you can leave some (packets) like me, inform a manager who is fine with the situation, only to return and another manager (who has more than previous) speak to you like utter s**t and try to embarrass you in front of your work colleagues. We went over by 30 minutes still! Maybe I'll just in this cutting off lark, karma and all that.

A great man once said to me "when cutting off, think where you might get to in your time, then take off an extra 15 minutes, at Christmas take off an extra 30 minutes"

Do as others have said, inform manager as soon as possible before you leave, i know it's pretty obvious when packets are piled sky high on your frame but your manager will still look at you with disbelief!!

Ignore him and take out what you have agreed. After you have written out your 25th P739 and you know you will not complete phone the office/manager and drop the good news. Expect the "your joking" or "i've got no one here to do it" comments and return to office on your finish time.

Explain to me how this is willful delay. Yet some on here are posting that any mail brought back to the office after they have agreed with manager is being classed as willful delay! We cannot estimate to the minute on 4 1/2 hour delivery spans what time we finish. However i do know for fact what time my finish time is xmas or not!

Inform manager before you go out. Leave any decision to him on whether you leave mail behind and the amount. Once out on delivery, the moment you know that you are unable to complete, call him and inform him that you will be bringing mail back. Job done, he can shout as long as he likes. Just inform him that he is delaying you getting on and you will be bringing more back. From experience the phone will go dead.

Lincox, have experienced the dead phone on a number of occasions as have others, so we also carry the reps number and if we have no answer from office/management we phone rep to let him know/or leave message on the answer phone as this is day/ time recorded. Ridiculous lengths to go to "cover " yourself, but it works.

Agreed Adamanti, but nothing p.sses management off more than you abiding by the rules because they know they can,t touch you.

I just say what I know I can probably do safely and that If I take any more I would most likely have to bring it back. Sometimes they say I must take more but I make it clear that I may not complete. They then know and I cannot be accused of wilful delay. If they ask me to call in to say if I am not going to complete I say that would lead me to leave even more because that will delay me. I am on the same walk each day and I am not usually too far out with my estimates, but I do feel we are put under far too much pressure to complete impossible tasks at times.
The important thing is to do the job 100% correct at all times, so that they never have the opportunity to catch you out in some way. I am continually threatened by one manager in particular with being tested, as if that would bother me! He did test me one week recently and could not fault me, but the very next week he threatened to do it again.

Our managers are nobs.

They always make us tie up and take everything out and tell us if we really have to cut off to bring it back.

it's rarely delivered the same day.

The time wasted tying up stuff you know won't be delivered, just so they can shout about their clear office on the conference call is getting more and more.
