time for delivering packets

just received a letter come flyer from royal mail called delivering a great Christmas for our customers telling me how to deliver packets that will not go through the letter box , 1 give customers sufficient time to answer the door2 remember to maximise delivery to neighbours 3 ensure all p739 cards are completed correctly. the problem is today my manager just informed us all the time aloud for doing all this is 57 seconds has billy smarts circus bought the majority shares in royal mail My union rep says take no notice of the 57 second rule that's fine but will management when I bring back a load of mail because I have taken longer delivering packets

I was wondering how long it would take RM to make changes after watching that Amazon thing last night, next we will have timer's on your PDA from when you scan your tracked item.
The annoying thing in all this is if you knock on someone's door they don't hear you, then they complain about being carded, you get dragged into the office about it, it's a no win situation these days Just so bloody infuriating, 57 seconds is impossible for old ladies with walking sticks, people in showers in bed etc etc, they are pushing delivery's far to much these days, del to neighbour dosen't take extra time, D2D's to be absorbed into the workload, revisions duties being made larger...then we have health and safety WTL every bloody week about driving safely to top all that off drivers have all the extra responsibility and no extra pay

I ring the bell and bang on the door as hard as I possibly can. One customer said she thought the door was coming off the hinges. I wait a while, if nobody answers I do it again and write out a P739. Don't have time to try 3 doors. If I can reach next door I will knock, generally they are out too. Obviously it takes 3 times longer to knock 3 doors and you still have to leave a docket at the delivery address. At the end of the day delivery to neighbour is your discretion no matter what the manager says.

Couldn't have put it any better. We keep being told to give customers sufficient time to answer door etc and how we should fully complete a P739 and then we get moaned at about being slow. Of course the final insult is when we open our wage slips to discover most of our o/t has been stolen.

RM say it doesn't add any time on delivering to neighbours, there was an article in the courier about it a while ago.

Even our manager says that's obviously complete bollocks, so we don't bother delivering to neighbour at all because if we did we'd be cutting off more than we already are. We've only completed once in the last week.

Oh, and for those not getting paid OT, the answer is simple - don't do any. Just cut off on time every day.
