Depends on their value as well. If you go to banks and jewellers then the limit is less than 8.

That Lighten The Load leaflet has surely been superseded(?) It's dated 2007, before vans and being paired up.

But the original question is about SD and HCTs.

So today on my HCT walk I had 11 Special Deliveries.
I asked the PHG if that was still acceptable (and he is very old school, do it by the book type) and he'd been told there are now no limits on the number of Special Deliveries an HCT duty can take out though security issues around cash/jewellery/etc would still be looked at.

hope someone does know the answer to this as i have a duty that gets between 10 and 30 sd items a day.

In the lighten the load agreement 1997 it says a maximum of 8 per walk per day and no more than 3 be higher value items. No idea if this has changed since then but there is definitely a limit similar to what I put for HCT duties. Van shares and rurals are a different though as their specials are always secure in the back of a locked van

If it is a high risk area then refer to the “WalkSafe” threat assessment procedure as it may
be necessary to reduce the number or remove these items completely on certain walks.
The important thing is that a Walk Risk Assessment must be carried out and such assessments
based on local knowledge and previous incidents may override these standards to ensure
the most appropriate safety and security protection levels are maintained at all times.
(A maximum of 8 Special Delivery (SD) individual items per walk may be carried each day,
of which no more than 3 may be higher value SD items, a maximum of 48 SD individual
items per walk each week of which no more than 18 may be higher value SD items. Walks
exceeding this standard number of items per week must to be Risk Assessed to determine
the appropriate method of delivery and whether it needs to be motorised. Ideally collection
