anybody got any thoughts on what is right for a postmans grade,to be dealinf with priority services,for dispatch following s/a,s.we have 3 s/ a duties in the afternoon,all is fine but should we be responsible for priority services all be it to be tied up,as we have no unit manager/team leader/old style phg? I guess until one item goes missing? am sure its the same for many small rural offices?on another note we have a 12 o clock dispatch on Saturdays,and several rurals are back way past this,so mail collected is left til Monday,dom says the boxes are scanned ,that's good enough?really? what a service! the public would not be happy if they knew?

if this is actually happening in your office, email moya about it asap, this is a very very serious matter. i guarantee you this situation will change extremely quickly and this will not be allowed to continue to happen, your manager is committing a sackable offence

Is it the doms fault what time the lorry comes to pick up the mail?
At my office the lorry comes at 1.30pm on Saturdays but,some deliveries don't get back till 2.

your DOM is responsible for when the lorry is scheduled to come, if it is scheduled to come at 1.30 and deliveries are scheduled to arrive after it leaves then he is fully responsible for that mail not meeting its dispatch and liable for disciplinary action

if need be an extra duty will need to be put in place to ensure the mail is brought back in time to meet its dispatch,

we highlighted it in our area last year and the very next week there was over time offered to cover all the boxes and bring them back in time for dispatch until the hired an new postie to cover this saturday collection

Very interesting! It's not too bad at my office in reality compared to the posters office!

well I guess in reality its 3 or 4 duties that miss the dispatch with mail they have collected on there duties,but its the thought of the customer thinking that mail they have posted is actualy sitting in the office over the weekend.a few of us allways missed it but now after the revision even more.the boxes being being scanned is all that matters so I am told.it does make you wonder what service we give?if you dwell on things too much it would eat you up,its not our problem.they did look into the numbers of letters that missed the dispatch,but why? a token gesture I guess.more important issues to deal with no doubt

doesnt matter how many duties miss, no mail should miss the dispatch if it was scheduled to be picked up that day, if your manager knows its happening and is letting it happen he is in big trouble, again i would email moya about it anonymously and that problem will be fixed very quickly, you will eaither end up getting a part timer extra hours or an extra body in the office
