Abusive Customer !!!

Today I was approached by a women who I left a P739 card last week for a parcel. She had left a note on the front door 'Leave parcel at nursing home up road'
Every year I tell her 'you must put it in writing to our manager so we can put it on our system' (A plus). She said she had (but I haven't received the letter cos im also A plus champion/coach & Rep). I told her we are not allowed to answer to notes on doors and was shown on Royal Mail TV on security of mail. She said I don't care about your rules. I told her please phone my manager and he will clarify what ive said. As I walked away she called me 'Arsehole'. I asked her what she said and she shouted 'Arsehole' twice more.
When I reached the office she had phoned and spoke to our acting PHG in the afternoons and told him that she had called me a 'Twat'.

Has anyone else encountered problems on delivery where customers intimidate you to do the job wrong ?
She will be receiving a standard RM letter to stop this harrassment tomorrow and if it carries on her mail deliveries will be suspended.

I would be delighted if someone shouted "arsehole" at me. I either see nobody, or they ignore me

The problem with altercations with customers is that in the majority of cases we will lose whether we are right or wrong.

I'm amazed she owned up to calling you anything. I would have expected her to lie and say it was you who called her something derogatory.

Think you got away with that one!!!

An angry customer called one of our deputy managers a 'spastic' on the phone the other day.

Still warms my heart. (depsite the appalling derogatory nature of the insult)

I remember, a rude lady was running after me shouting at me for not hearing her, she shout at me saying are you deaf ? I shout back to her YES I am deaf. It shut her up. as she got no comeback.

I had an incident once where a dog bit me and the owner starts to say I was in the wrong for walking up the path. Anyway she was really off with me and obviously I was angry, but kept my cool. When I got back to the DO she had phone and spoken to the DOM and said I had been swearing at her.I could not believe it. My DOM did believe me when I said I had not. Low and behold about an hour later she phoned back and said that in fact I had not swore at her. Pfft!! Just goes to show there are some horrible people oh there. But at least she came clean

Don't forget you can always refer these rude customers to us on customer services ,we are regularly abused and insulted,and I have to say when we logg what cust says and Dom replies custs mostly tell a pack of lies?
But yep I am regularly abused various vile name calling ,one cust said I will speak slowly as you are a call centr worker and slow on understanding another called me a fascist nice.anyway merry Christmas posties keep up the good work we know you're brilliant

Got shouted at for posting a surcharge card, it was apparently a card for a wedding anniverary, and the bloke said that i had 'ruined his wedding anniversary'. I used to always leave his parcels with his neigbour... Not anymore P739 everytime

In contrast, I was recently verbally abused by customer as I wouldn't go into his garden, due to the large dog. The customer was by the front door and told me, aggresively, to get another job etc if I didn't like dogs.

Thanks for the words of support. I've never considered referring abusive customers directly to customer services. Apart from logging any incidents, what action can you take? Can you go over the doms head if they aren't following the correct procedures? Good to know there are people like you on our side. Merry xmas!
