Part time union rep

Can a part timer become a union rep to help part timers? Approached my union rep and he said no as there was not enough people in our office. Off the top of my head we have 16 part timers in our office and since I have started nothing has changed and last week I decided to bring up our issues and I have been crucified for it. They tried to break the local agreement by putting me on different walks that wasn't on my duty. I complained to our rep about that one and then they took me off my duty which this week remains vacant and have made me spare. I was told it because I was moaning to my rep and now they can send me where they want now I don't have a duty. My day off was meant to be Saturday on that duty and has now been changed to Tuesday so I informed them there were breaking the national agreement by not giving me Tuesday. They told me that it ain't there problem. Basically I have had enough of this treatment and our rep dosent care unless it effects him so the part timers want a part timer to become a rep.they also tried to give me a stage one warning on yesterday and I haven't been off since June lol. I have had 6 absents in 4 years and three of them were one day absents. According to there sheet I got I am within there perimeters so have no idea why there doing this. Gonna be fireworks tomorrow again when I bring all this up again

the union is supposed to represent all members a part time union rep representing part time members you couldnt make it up

just put your self up for election against the current rep next time your due to select a rep, it should be happening once a year, then just fairly represent everyone in the office not just the part timers,

in the mean time just go over your reps head and go to area rep if he is not doing anything to help you

It might be every two years now if I'm not mistaken, I think they thought there wasn't much point in every year if the same bods are going to be voted in anyway. I'm surprised they aren't elected for life because there's little chance of getting elected short of the funeral parlour, certainly for the higher echelon full time release merchants.

Sounds like your rep is in bed with the DOM. Tittle tattling every grievance to him and your being punished for having the audacity to have an opinion. Go above the reps head, and ask one of your part time comrades to represent you and organise a meeting with your DOM to clear the air and get your grievances sorted out.

Already done. Our new dom has agreed to a meeting with part timers on Tuesday to hear all our grievances. Only problem for me is his assistant has gave me Tuesday off instead of sat so will need to try sort that tomorrow. Just had a look through my absents and I have been off 6 times in 4 and a half years and three of those were one day. The only one that could trigger a stage one was my cracked ribs. Arid said I needed 6 weeks off but I came back within three as I felt able enough. That was 6 months ago so if the issue a stage one and back date it the 6 months will be up already and I never got a back to work interview for it either. Our office is a joke.

As for going up against the current rep I don't think I would get enough votes. He allows the full timers to come in early and most of them have there sequenced mail and d2ds made up before there official start time. Even half the part timers come in early aswell and work for nothing. I don't think they would like me trying to change that

Had my stage 1 interview today for attendance and my rep didn't show. He left early to go on his walk and dom said they spoke earlier and decided he wasn't needed lol. I took the phg in with me and they tried to issue a stage 1 for a sickness that occurred 6 months ago. I refused it and told them I will need to go to the union and chuckled so much for not needing my rep. I am going above his head now. Also wating to find out about reserves getting 1 in 6. Dom saying there waiting on hearing from there legal team on it and I have told I am taking this Saturday off anyway.

to be fair, he cant stop that, and you could only encourage them not to do that, you wouldnt have any power to stop them coming in, you would need to get the dom to stop that

your rep sounds like a right twat, definitely go above his head

unless you were scheduled to be off on saturday i wouldnt advise just not turning up to prove your point of wanting 1 in 6 off even if you have told him you wont be in, it could be considered an un authorized absence and get you in big trouble

I have been given Friday off. Also been told if for operational needs they can't give me 1 in 6 it moves on and they will try to give me 2 in 12 but not sure how long that could go on for ? 4 in 24? Am guessing they can abuse this by giving me my sat when am on annual leave?

I also went above my reps head today when he agreed with the dom about signing my stage 1. I have now been advised not to sign it and union will get back to me on it tomorrow. Two doms and a rep trying to pressure me into signing it.stood my ground.

Came in today and I was spare along with two others and they couldn't give me my sat off? Looks like they were trying to provoke a reaction out of me. Also tried to get me to sign off my stage 1 again. Still waitng on the union to getting back to me on that one.
