Just been told by GP am looking at 6-8 weeks off with a disc injury which happened on duty. This is the second time this has happened in 2 years... Work in small rural SPDO. One manager asked if I could travel 20 miles to another DO to. answer the phones. Any tips on dealing with any hassle from RM management ???????

ask him if he is prepared to drive you to that office from your house and tell him he will have to drive you back home when you finish .... that will sort him out

Dont agree to anything, ask him for a referal to ATOS Healthcare who are RMs occupational health care providers, they are a lot better to deal with than a DOM who thinks he has a medical degree

if the doctor says unfit for work then you are unfit for work as them for a letter saying they will take responsibiliy if it makes your condition worse

I had this and couldn't stand or sit for too long.

only way was to mix things up which involved sitting on the floor with a pillow at the base of my spine....after 7 months it still hadn't improved so was IHR'd

If you are signed off by the doc, and you go over your 14 days, are you automatically Staged 1'd? If you are then signed off for a further 14 days, are you then Staged 2'd etc?

What if you are signed off for 6 months!

if its one continual absence then you only get a stage 1

Take it easy m8 .. DO NOT give them anything!.. If ATOS say rest then you rest . Your DOM must abide by there advise.

Our Dom said that atos advise is only a recommendation and they dont have to abide why bother sending us for a referral if they are not going to abide by atos

I know someone who had a light duty on letters and after a month was moved to a different area (still light duty, but different environment) which has made him worse . Have read his report and it says go back to original light duty as this will help with the stress he feels-and speed up recovery. Question is can Dom say no cant do that even though its in the report.

The line manager is responsible for the workplace, his team, and their health & safety.
Although GP’s and ATOS Healthcare provide important advice to support the decision
making process, the line manager is the person who makes the final decision when
managing sick absence cases.
