Undelivered mail found in HCT

One of our regular posties went to get his hct and found a load of mail that was undelivered from saturday as a casual was doing the duty and probably had enough, and just left it in the hct without telling anyone,

Royal mail managers rather employ these folks while trying to get rid of folks that have been on the job for quite a few years 12+

That is why casuals are rarely used in delivery - just too hard and it is hard to find ultra reliable and competent ones.

I am surprise that some delivery offices use casuals - this must be a large inner city office. I know of a large Mail Centre that uses Casuals at Xmas.

Oh, I remember doing some delivery as a Xmas casual back in the early 90s when I was a student. It was around the districts of Del Boy and Rodney - was pretty scary as we had to go in twos to some major council estates

The managers expect to be able to ring up, bring in a casual and that person will be up to speed on any duty.
Truth is, just about any casual proven to be worth their pay is working at least a part-time duty already.
The odds of pulling someone off the street who can do the job of a postie is probably around 1 in 20 imo.
The result of the managers' unrealistic expectations is often undelivered mail.

It is wilful delay, of course.

But the final responsibility lies with the manager and he will have to face the can if discovered by IB or Auditors.

It's wilful delay still how can you deal with a casual that has no investment in the job that may not last beyond a few days on minimum wage. He won't care.
