Hi, I am needing information regarding an injury I picked up whilst on delivery.
At the begining of September, Saturday 1st September to be more precise I was out on delivery and fell down an unmarked hole in someone's driveway. The owner of the house witnessed the fall and I also have a photograph of the unmarked hole in my phone as well. I hurt my knee and shin but managed to continue to the end of my delivery.
As it was a Saturday, when I returned to the office all managers were away home so I could not put the incident in the accident book, I contacted my manager via text to let him know what had happened and that I was in pain and on my way to hospital.
Iv just recently been referred to see a specialist as my knee is getting worse and their is now limited movement in it which is very painful and become quite uncomfortable when it comes to getting in and out of work vans and up and down stairs etc. Iv also recently found out that the incident I reported to the manager was never put in the accident book and I'm fearing if the specialist assigns me off work I won't recieve any pay for being off.
I simply cannot afford to not work as I have bills etc to pay hence why I have continued to work with the injury. My union representative has told me I definatly have a case for a claim but my main worry is being assigned of with no pay.
I have only been a postie since February so do not think I qualify for SSP. I need to know what I need to do to cover myself if I get signed off and if I would recieve any kind of sick pay.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
