alleged racist misconduct
Ok. This is my situation. I am awaiting a decision on a gross misconduct from my Dom. I was alleged to shout racist abuse at a black woman customer. The short story was i had an abrupt clash with her where after she closed the door i said f**k sake be like that. A couple of people were walking past argueing at the same time when the customer closed the door and one of the people was shouting f***ing black bitch quite loudly. The customer claims this was me. I have had run ins with customers in the enquiry office before but i have never had a previous conduct officially. Only warnings. Because the matter in hand is a customers word v mine, does my dom have grounds to sack me. I have anger issues but he also referred me to atos when we had the meeting on tuesday. Surely if he wanted to sack me he wouldnt have done this. I have had stage 3 interviews for attendance a few times before. Could this have a bearing? I have the backing of my union rep and he has been great.

Re: alleged racist misconduct
unfortunately he would have grounds to sack you, he could easily say there is a pattern of behavior here, you have said you have had run ins with customers ie more than one in the past and he has dealt with it "unofficially" this time however as theres been a complaint he seems to be dealing with it officially, even though it is your word against customers as you say you did swear though not at her and there is a pattern of this, though you probably would be able to avoid the racist bit. I would guess your dom is getting fed up putting his neck online by not doing anything official in past so this time its official, i seriously doubt however you will lose you job though the grounds are technically there, ther referal to atos suggests he isnt going to get ridchrisdouglas wrote:Ok. Re: alleged racist misconduct
I had to get her to sign for a packet and she was off with me right from the start. Barely opened the door, and when i asked her to sign, took the sheet and tryed to close the door. I asked her to sign without the door closed and she took offensive to this and basically scribbled in a rush, took packet and shut the door. I said f**k sack be like that as i was shocked by her attitude. She later claimed to my line manager that she had a dog and was reluctant to open the door for that reason. As a dog owner i don't understand why she just didnt say give me a sec to put the dog away! Some people are a joke! The racist stuff shouted in the street has blown this out of proportion.

should have just let her close door and sign the sheet, plenty of people barely want to open the door, sometimes cause they are wearing very little and dont want to have to explain or for other reason like a dog pushing to get out, best to just let them close door if that what they want, saves you getting in situations like this in future

Working in the callers office we get quite a few abusive customers and the best thing is to let them have their rant....then bid them farewell as they slam the door...you just can't win with some folk...I like it when they DEMAND to see a manager .....most managers I have worked with cringe and seem to shrink in size when told a Customer (angry) wants to talk with them.lol

That's assuming that you can actually find a manager.
I had an abusive customer who came back a couple of hours later with large bunch of flowers and an apology for his behaviour.
The exception to the rule

Re: alleged racist misconduct
How true. It's strange how managers want to shy away from customers in the callers office who are aggressive, harassing and unreasonable in their demands, yet they are keen to lambast OPG's in that very same manner......postypie wrote:Working in the callers office we get quite a few abusive customers and the best thing is to let them have their rant....then bid them farewell as they slam the door...you just can't win with some folk...I like it when they DEMAND to see a manager .....most managers I have worked with cringe and seem to shrink in size when told a Customer (angry) wants to talk with them.lol

After 7 hours today in the callers, had 2 customers together giving me s**t, one shouted "I pay your f**king wages" , I replied "no you don't" and got told not to get gobby. What I should have said is "Can I have a pay rise then please"
