PT/FT Duty Question

We have a part time round in our office, but it also has a few sections at the top of the frame which could make it up to a full time round (if for example a full timer was covering the round). This 'extra delivery' takes 1 hour to complete and is out on a limb. In the revision it was agreed that the callers window is closed for 1 hour per day, and the person on callers duty would then take out the extra delivery on the frame.
So today I was on this round. I am a part timer so I usually only take out the part time amount, leaving the extra delivery in the frame for callers duty to take out. As soon as I got to the frame in the morning the guy on callers duty told me I had to take out the whole frame today as it was managers day off, and there would be no one to look after the office when callers window was closed. No manager was there to speak to about it, so I agreed to take out the whole frame and booked 1 hour overtime for it.

Now my question is, who should be responsible for making sure this extra delivery goes out when the manager has a day off?

the manager is responsible for ensuring the extra bit is covered, though he may have asked the callers office person to ask you to do it

The answer is - the manager!

What if you had prior engagement and you could not do the additional hour?

They should let you know if there is not going to be a cover: so they can offer you to come in early to do full-time hours or ask you to do OT as you just did or find out whether you cannot do extra.

Either way, they should let you beforehand - be polite about it; it is not asking a lot. Speak to your Rep about it or speak to the manager.
