Holidays start on a Monday?

Maybe a daft question, apologies.
I've booked 5 days off, and on my annual leave card is says MTWTHF, ovbiously Monday to Friday.
But what if I need to travel on the Saturday prior to my annual leave?
But to get a decent break away, most holiday places are from Saturday to Saturday
Do I have to book that off the Saturday before and after as holiday too or just ask line manager if I can have those Saturdays as days off?
Saturdays are bloody hard to get off mind

you would have to book the saturday before off as lieu leave.
the saturday after is part of your weeks leave.

it's always been mon - sat for a full week off.

if you need to travel on the Saturday prior to your holiday starting you will need to either book the saturday only off as well ( like you say hard to do )
swap your day off with someone else in your DO
work the morning and travel after you have finished work ( a pain in the ar5e but had to do it myself a couple of times )
or pay someone cash to do your walk once they have finished theirs ( although a lot of doms don't like this and you have to make sure the person you are paying will definitely do your walk )

Cheers for that. I'll see what I can do, but as you say, as a last resort I can always head off after my Saturday shift.
Good to know the Saturday afterwards is counted as leave.

unless your a lm or dom where you can use acting managers as cover and get any day off you want or need feckin corrupt barstewards

After 9 yrs, I think I've only EVER had TWO Saturday off before A/L on the Monday...

Prob coz I havent got Blue Eye, unlike the many others who get their Sat/Sunday prior to their A/L...

We drove to cornwall for the last 3 years , I booked the day off and we set off saturday at 10am, and got there at 10pm. Last year however, I couldnt get the day off, so we set off at 4pm, and got there at 10pm Roads where dead, no traffic, clear all the way. Coming back, set off at 10am, got home at 9pm

Do you get rota days off so you get a Sat/Mon every 6 weeks?
I try to book a week off where its my day off either before or after a week off
If not its in the hands of the manager to see if he'll book you the day off, given enough notice and if not in a prime week I've never not got it, though me being a cheapo Ryanair flyer I try and book the cheaper Mon/Tue flights

I have been known to swap to help colleagues go away on a Saturday.
Letting them do a Wednesday for me out of the kindness of my heart

Cash is preferred though, since it's not taxed

It is a pain in the arse for me as it is difficult to book Saturday or Monday off as you have to book whole week in our office. I resent it and it causing lot of conflicts with the guy who do the holidays problem is Salsa weekenders is from Friday to Monday. I would love to do flextime at work but that is not going to happens :(
