Remembrance.

At 11:00 today 11th November 2013 those who chose to were able to observe the two minute silence to remember the men and women who gave their lives in the service of our country. This act of remembrance would have been repeated in Royal Mail offices and workplaces across the country. It was observed with dignity at London Airport Mail Unit.

Five hours earlier there was a less than dignified discussion with a manager who decided that our unit would not allow this act of remembrance as “They had done it yesterday, so today does not count”. It took the intervention of a union rep to get things sorted out. I am grateful for the help.

I have worked for Royal mail since 1989 and have worked in a few locations. In all that time I have never come across a manager trying to prevent this national institution.

Today I felt ashamed to be a Royal mail employee.

I hope my unit will sort things out before November 2014.

In 27 years i have never failed to observe the 2 minute silence on my delivery.
If some jumped up twat tried to stop me, he would get the hairdrier treatment.

Was on my induction today and the sorting office I was at all the staff went outside observed the two minutes silence. Afterwards they laid two wreaths at the statue outside. I was really honoured to be part of it.

That sounds typical of a manager. 2 minutes is nothing compared to what some people gave. I observed the 2 minutes silence yesterday and did so again today on my delivery ,and it always brings a lump to my throat.
