20 mins break?

Our manager informed us this morning that the people that were cutting off would have to take their 20 min break before we went out this morning,anybody that was completing wouldn't have to take a break and could finish early.We always take our break whilst we are out on delivery and have done for nearly two years,is this allowed or are we being victimised for having bigger walks than others.Can someone direct me to the agreement as we are having a discussion about this on Monday.

you should all be taking part of your break before going out on delivery!

if you work 7.48 a day your entitled to a 40 min break. a lot of dly offices split it and have 20 mins on the end. if your doing s/a you don't get paid for said break.

We have been allowed to have our 20 mins while we are on delivery up to now but we are quite prepared to take it before we go out but should we be victimised for cutting off?

says it all about delivery... we have walks that are not about the same in length of prep and/or delivery and people refusing to take their breaks just finish 20 minutes or so early...

*some of the walks are so unfairly different that it is as if some people are being punished.

I've already said we take our break daily but can they make us take it before we go out or can we take it in the van?

You can take your break half way through your day, so if you start at 8 and finish at 3, 12 ish is ok. Don't forget you have to be working 2 hours before a M/R.

How is he helping us do our job right by saying those who complete their deliveries don't have to take a break? I have already said we take our break daily just not when he says we should.

I don't see the problem take what your entitled to why give them 40 mins extra work for nothing , me and my mate start on time 6.42 , and take 20 mins in the van when we have delivered one frame , feel better for it . then the other 20 when we have finished delivering then go back and claim overtime from 14.20. last van back . then you get people starting at 6 , no breaks running round to get finished on time , whos the idiots.

Don't forget you have to be working 2 hours before a M/R.

This is exactly what we do now but our manager wants us to take a break before we go out rather than in the van is this enforceable ?

This sort of issue is why the Agreement on 'fair days work for fair days pay' and issues of bullying and harassment will mean nothing if delivery posties do not respect what has been hard fought.

The Union fought for paid breaks, yet posties could either take it or leave it.

The manager in this context is actually using the ignorant behaviour of the posties to play one side against the other.

Why should you want to take the break in the van? By the time you are about to leave the yard, you would have done at least 3 hours work (if FT), and you deserve a break before proceeding.

If they want you to take all the 40 minutes break at the office then you have the right to complain.
