Funeral Processions

Quite often these pass me on my round,What do you do when they pass? Stop and Bow your head? Take off your cap and hold it to your chest? I just carry on delivering as if im oblivious to it,But the more it happens the more guilty I feel at not showing some sort of respect.

I usually stop mainly because there's a good chance I knew the poor bugger or at least some of the family.

I've had occasions when the people are outside waiting for the coffin (and sometimes already there), when I've had to deliver some mail to the house, awkward or what!!!

Best thing is to offer condolences if a family are waiting to leave a property, if a funeral passes just wait a moment until its gone.As mentioned you may know the family.

I always stop and remove my cap and bow my head.

years ago, when I was in funeral car following my brothers hearse I saw an old chap stop, and bow his head as we passed and from that day on I have also done likewise.

and yeah mdm, I have had to do that on a couple of occasions ( my old walk was like gods waiting room ) but I again just removed my cap and delivered the mail.

I deliver to a funeral director and if there's a funeral on that day I just bring it back and endorse it "no access".
I'm not pushing my way past mourners to deliver some piece of crap,that would be crass and disrespectful.

had a load of cards for a house once and asked whose birthday it was only to be told they were sympathy cards and the husband had died.

I once was delivering to the priest's house, which was part of the church, im just posted the mail and walking down the path, half way down the path the church door open and I see the coffin, tbf the Priest discreetly slows down the procession and nods at me to go before anyone noticed im was in the procession.
