Christmas hours

Ive never worked a christmas and was wondering how busy christmas eve normally is? Is it usually a parcel and letter packed day with a late finish or isnt there usually much on? Im asking as my girlfriend arrives from Ireland on the 23rd and im trying to plan something on christmas eve if I had an idea of finishing times etc. Also the same question goes for boxing day please?

Are you part time in delivery? do you need the money? are you in the union yet? if not you may be at the beck and call of the managers!

Christmas Eve is usually one of the busiest days especially on tracked and prios - (people ordering forgotten presents) and and redeliveries. Also success rate of delivering can be low because everyone is out stocking up and buying the last gifts. However its usually the best day for tips.

theres no hard and fast rule on this, it will vary from office to office, but if your office clears every day without too much overtime or any cut offs then you should be finished earlyish on xmas eve as its usually like a normal tuesday, but if you office has the habit of not clearing daily and loads of mail brought back every day, then you will probably find it will be busy and late finish(or your normal finish time if you cut off)

yes our office clears everyday virtually, only 3 days this year where it didnt due to high sick level, we have park and loop in place now for about 18 months and all walks use the delivery methods they are supposed to

No one in ours has time to use the delivery methods anymore and ours was long before yours was done still not enough staff thanks for your input.

Has your office a plan to get the packets done for me that is the big thing make sure the managers know how the situation is and bang some heads!.

why stop using it? your making rods for your own back, its there to help you, you should all be insisting on using it

when we had our revision what we did was get the youngest guy who was good on the computer to sit as the office rep with the planner, he picked holes in the geo route outputs found loads of missing delivery points and as such actually got a extra walk put into the office, then for the trial implementation period, we stuck together, no one in early, every one using trollies, FT made sure PT walks were fully prepped and tied down and d2d made up before going onto their own frames, this resulted in them going over for the trial period and PT finishing on their correct time, the result of this was that PT staff got their hours increased by 6 hours each to allow FT to get onto their frames early, so now pt only have sequenced mail prepped, they do the rest now as part of contracted hours, everyone is very happy with the way the office is running except area manager as he had to put in about 100 hours per week, tried to cut hours this april we simply said no, heres the geo route outputs our walks take this amount of time, heres you indoor work load tool says we have this amount of indoor work, so stick your 5% savings up your arse

A good rep helps, and a team that looks out for each other whether ft or pt helps too

my Christmas hours will work out at 39 hours per week
