Don't sign this unless your partner does it as well
One of the managers in my office came to me with a sheet to sign for the security of the van i.e make sure the van is locked at all times and nobody suspicious is hanging about, don’t leave mail on the front seat etc etc. Well I brought this sheet home and studied it basically says if you are the driver you are held fully responsible for that van in question even though your partner has another key.
Now if I lock the van and my partner comes and opens it and forgets to lock or leave mail in view and IB sees this or a manager or something get stolen out of it then its the van driver who will cop for it?
I don’t think so some how and I will not sign this sheet until ALL P & L personnel sign it why should I take any rap for a stupid thing that my partner may do? they better think again about this security policy. Just a bit of advice guys don’t sign it until you are certain what your signing I know lads in our office would sign a death penalty without even reading it..
Its like been a bank manager and you have the code for the safe well I'm sorry so does the assistant manager have the code so who is to say he wouldn't rob something....

Some posties are just hard to educate... Even when we have had security people going round and manager having a word; one of them that I work with always put the specials on the dash and mail all over the front. I tell over and over again and put them in the back. However, when I catch up with him again, he's at it again.
Some people lead a charmed life - and this bloke is charming to managers and customers but I do not buy it. He will probably get away with it as well; one of those 'happy go lucky' buffoons.

Key Holders
Shared van working will work best if both employees sharing the vehicle have key access to the mail compartment so as to minimize waiting time at the van.
Key control processes therefore need to be communicated to employees, and managed, more effectively than ever before.
All sets of vehicle keys must be signed for, i.e.: where two sets of keys are used on a shared van duty then both OPGs must sign separately for each set. The person signing for keys will be considered responsible for their security until responsibility is transferred and details have been recorded on the local office key control record.
Managers must periodically confirm availability of all sets of keys issued for any shared vehicle under their control. Checks should be carried out at the same time as licence checks are conducted (whether the subsequent key holder has a driving licence or not).
When not in use, all vehicle keys must be kept on the person at all times - they must never be left in the vehicle or in any delivery trolley or delivery pouch.
Responsibility for the security of any mail left on board a vehicle which is unattended will be shared jointly between any key holders working from the vehicle. Mail left in unattended vehicles must always be secured within the load area.
Failure to adhere to these principles may lead to disciplinary action being taken under the Conduct Code and could result in dismissal.
That's the procedure.
Not sure how joint responsibility would work in practice.
Seems like a minefield to me.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

That is a really interesting piece there Fishtank most posties goes up and signs for two sets keys in my office and to me its to much hassle for the phgs to set sheets aside and get posties to sign separate. On return many a time I have put my key and scanner in a box to return them to the cage and my partner swears blind it was his key in the box till he finds his key later. I take it the keys should be signed back separately as well?fishtank wrote:http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... 38#p506038" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; The Grumbler wrote:I don’t think so some how and I will not sign this sheet until ALL P & L personnel sign it why should I take any rap for a stupid thing that my partner may do? they better think again about this security policy.

Re: Don't sign this unless your partner does it as well
The other week we had to use a spare van of different make, on one loop we got back to an unlocked side door due to both of us having different multi button keyfob remotes. It does happen and could have got us into deep trouble. But for the manager to get 2 signatures every day for each van would threaten his coffee and fag break time!

Simple only the driver has a key . If the passenger knocks the hand break e.t.c when they are moving around in the van and causes a crash you know who the police will blame . They can't blame two people so they will have to go after the driver every time

Its a blank page that turns into a download after 10 seconds or so (for me). Your security software may be blocking it.The Grumbler wrote:Link not working?5plusbonusball wrote:http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... hp?id=2884 - page 8 - print it.
