Folks after 21 years in the job Ive just been told that a new start will be getting trained on my duty and I will be used as a reserve, can they do this? totally pissed off.

yes they can, they can do whatever they like its called operational needs and there will be more of this occuring now the company has become privatised.

Why would they make you a reserve and give someone your duty?

yes they can do it but why are they doing it what are you not telling us?

They do what they like now , we should all be working to time now with all the cuts so it really makes no difference anymore what duties we have , if you work steady and run out of time cut off ! Seniority has gone now

thats the way it is and it will get awful they are going to break the full timers, the company wants to save money

If you're the actual duty holder and there's no agreed revision activity affecting that specific duty then your union rep should be all over this

Used to happen at ours when they actually trained new starters up, think it was for 6 weeks, but the duty holder making way got an extra payment for it, not sure exactly but it was a decent wad p/w

Work to time so it doesn't really make much difference except you'll not see the regular customers. I am a great advocate of working to time. Busier days the better = less time to deliver...think about it!

pink panther is listed in the Mail Centre/Processing group so being a reserve could potentially mean a different shift (early/back/night). Moving someone off their allocated duty and replacing them with someone else isn't on

not without prior agreement from the individual concerned. the only thing set in stone is your start /finish times and your m/r, how they occupy the rest is up to them.
if this isn't happening get the local then area rep involved if you're a member of course.
