PDA Question

Hi All,
I got a bollocking the other day, for not taking my PDA out on delivery with me , I told the dom that i had no tracked,recorded or specials to scan ,so idn,t think i needed to take it He said you still need to take it out on delivery regardless can anyone on here tell me if he is right on this and clarrify what the rules are for PDA,s

Not sure what the agreed rules are, but

the PDA's most likely have GPRS tracking, there's no reason for the batteries to run down so quickly otherwise. They'll use this to track everyone's location/progress in case they want to use something against you in the future they can look at everywhere you've been. This is the reason they insist on taking the PDA imo. Also these PDA's now will usually be able to give a reading of what speed you're moving at, so in the event of any traffic incident they can see if you were speeding.

Yes the pda's have gps tracking, but RM were to tight to pay for it to be enabled, so no they haven't a clue where you've been.

Yes they can. There's a programme called Black Bay which tracks and traces it knows who you are and where you last used it. I'm not too sure about now but in the early days it was mandatory to log the machine on and off every day otherwise the powers that be assumed it wasn't in use and could be recalled for somewhere else but I don't think there's a shortage now.

Well when I asked the DOM why they couldn't track the PDA in the van that had just been stolen, that's the answer I got.

They only can track where it was last scanned and that piece of data is then sent with the gps co-ordinates, i know this as it appeared that i had lost the pda, all they could track it was to the last completed scan be it a special, recorded or tracked.
So they could tell me the last place i scanned it, but not where it was.

The pda was eventually found a week later in the van, it had slipped into the door pockets in the back of a combo, i didnt even know their was these pockets their as once the door is open their essentially outide.

no they cannot track you that is utter bull s**t. they can only track where you made scans you can just suspend comms otherwise - these bits of kit are years old and out of date.

Exactly what I was thinking :) Although I am more reconnect comms about 6 times a day as the stupid things are always offline. That's if the screen isn't frozen, battery low, or anything other number of problems we get with them!

We have been told to leave comms on at all times, with the threat of 'retraining' and 'disciplinary procedures' for repeated failures on this front.
Quite how they intend to prove it is deliberate, I don't know.

And yes, they are trackable, but only when you scan and that info is sent.

So back to the original point, what is the point in taking a PDA if there are no tracked/recorded/specials? If they can only track when a scan is made, why have 1 with you?

there is no point its like carrying an extra lead weight which costs a lot of money. tell your DOM to kindly f**k off. if not grievance.
