Regret my strike decision

Im a new postie,only been employed for a matter of weeks,anyway today our rep came round with a list and asked if I was striking on Monday. I really didnt know what I wanted to say to him,he knew that by my face and he said to me nobody would think bad of me if I didnt strike and that he understands me being new and really probably still on 'probation' with me being new.
When I got home I told my brother (who has been employed for 30yrs) told me I was mad and that there are people at his mail centre who are still getting ignored for not striking years down the line. Is this the case? I really didnt know what decision to come to with me being new but after listening to my.brother I really should tell my rep to count me in. By the way I work in a D.O
Has anyone any experiences of what my brother said,would I have been ignored? Its my first employment where ive experienced strikes.

Strike breakers tend to get the cold shoulder off many people for many years, many people will never forget that you benefit from their sacrifice. I've seen it myself and there's people from the last strikes who I won't give the time of day to anymore.
