Will us reserves all be given Monday as our day off?

Post by Robtor »

Our office, like most i imagine, has quite a lot of full time reserves floating around from duty to duty. Every bank holiday week, almost all of us magically get the Monday as our day off and it's amazingly hard to claim the day back, I suspect a lot don't bother (hence why they do it). This year, all 3 bank holiday's I didn't get.
Tomorrow (Thursday) next week's rota will be put up, and I'm betting loads of us will get the Monday strike day off. They'll then have all of us doing a full 5 day week helping to clean the sh!t up. I want them to know I am striking with the rest (quite a strong office) but clearly making a phone call only to lose pay on a day I'm not working anyway would be stupid.

I'm not sure why I posted this now, I can't remember what the question was but I'll think of it in a minute. :whistle

Was you're question, "is my boss a tosser?"

I have to admit that on bank holidays my leave reserves do often get a day in lieu , on the other hand I try to make sure that I give them the day back when they want and give them a fair share of Saturdays off or lead in Saturdays . Leave reserves do tend to get the s**t end of the stick and they put up with a lot of messing about day to day. I think leave reserves are the ones that tend to be forgotten when it comes to leave etc , mine on the other hand , I wouldn't swap ,it's a bit of give and take. Some have Monday as their day off , others will lose a day ,hopefully they will get it back when the backlog has to be cleared . I have staffed up as normal , if I,m short later in the week , tough I will deal with it then.

Lol yeah that'd be it, I don't think I needed to post here for the answer to that though!

And 74tower, yeah that's more than fair enough, I know we're fairly bottom of the pile and will have these things happen but when it's every single holiday it goes from an annoying coincidence :Boo hoo! to an insulting slap in the face. A couple of grievances have been done because of it actually.

Firstly, If you are covering the same duty all week and it has either a fixed or rotating day off you should get that day off.

If it is a 6 day duty (wally,1 in 6 etc) or you are covering more than one duty that week then expect your day off to be the one that most suits the DOM.

On a bank holiday week this will almost certainly be the Monday, but you MUST get this day back in leiu just the same as ANY day off falling on a bank holiday.

As for next week, Happy days! You will not lose any money and you can show your managers and your colleagues you support the strike by standing on the picket line!

Then you can sit back and hold your breath waiting for the (completely non existent) £300 as well!!

Also you can ask to be paid for the day off they owe you if your day off is a bank holiday instead of getting a lieu day I think.
I am sure I read a post about it on here :chuckle
