Tracked 739's - correct procedure

Post by Perks »

At our delivery office when a Tracked item is not delivered and a 739 card is left we have to write down the barcode number on the 739, as not all tracked barcodes peel off as they do with PSI and signed (Recorded) for items. If this is the correct procedure, why don't all the barcodes peel off? I have contacted RM via twitter and asked customer services if a 739 card would have a tracked item number on it and they said no! Our DOM has told me that this is now the business requirement for tracked.
I have checked with other offices close to our office and it appears that we are the only office doing this. I wonder if it's an idea that has originated from the callers office. Any advice greatly received......I can then put this annoyance to bed, hopefully..

Unity is our strength.

Yes you are supposed to write the tracked barcode numbers on a P739. You are also supposed to write SD and signed for numbers and not use the labels, although everyone uses the labels. The relevent SOP is 170 Deliver Mail

Unity is our strength. Indeed
When tracks are not delivered you should 739, but if it is a NON Signature there is no need to write the barcode on the 739 simples, its just another Parcel/Pkt that needs a scan, THIS IS THE FUTURE... :wave :wave

I can't see any need/use for it.
It doesn't help the locker/customer/postie in any way I can think of so it must be a World Class Mail thing.

It's another system that needs updating, give us peel off numbers on tracked. God knows how many £1000's they spend on myroyalmail and rmtv and Nick Hewer when there are things like stickers , good pdas and good elastic bands needed urgently! :evil/mad

If it is a tracked item and it is 739'd, how on earth is the customer supposed to track it without the tracking number? I always write it on the card!

The customer isn't supposed to be able to track the item, the sender is. This is the information I have been given by our ADR.

Your ADR is wrong, from the tracked delivery specs on the rm website:

Who should use Royal Mail Tracked™?

To use Royal Mail Tracked™, you need to send 1,000 parcels a year, per site across both Royal Mail Tracked 24™ and Royal Mail Tracked 48™. It’s the perfect answer for parcels weighing up to 15kg. We can collect your parcels from your site or you can deliver it to a local mail centre, (if you send over 300,000 items per year).

Tools to help

Our despatch management software makes is easy to prepare your parcels for despatch.

See how Despatch Management Online (DMO) can help. We've also enhanced our mail network to link with your order processing system, saving you time and increasing the efficiency of your despatch process.
You and your customers can follow the progress of your parcels online with our Track & Trace tool. The unique barcode label means we can track your parcel through at least four track points from our outward mail centre to your customer’s doorstep. The result? Fewer redeliveries and happier customers.

Rubbish advice by your ADR! The customer has EVERY right to use track and trace.

scenario..
You order an item from Amazon its a tracked item, and they have provided a tracked number, the postie in his/her haste fail to leave a 739 is returned to the callers office (endorsed) customer checks track and trace, showing held at enquiry office... - track and trace finds your item....(you arrange a re-delivery for your tracked item and complain your postie failed to knock and leave a 739....

That's a reason to track an item, not a reason to write the number on a p739.

I can see no benefit whatsoever for writing down the numbers or pulling off a sticker. It doesn't help the locker staff locate the item and the customer KNOWS where the item is. They have the notice left telling them exactly.

Track what? What does the card not already explain that the tracking number could?

The tracking numbers are vital.
The customer can check where their item is and Callers office staff can double check item location if it's not quickly located.

No number on 739 - no idea what's happened to vanishing parcel.
