collections with no training??

Today I was given a round which included collections. I have never done this before and had no idea what I was doing or where I was going. I managed to do 12 of the 27 collections and now I'm worried I will get grief in the morning, even tho I have not be given any training on collections.

You cannot perform collections without training as the timetable is too tight.

Not your fault of course this one is down to the dom and he /she will need to report it on the conference call.

I think the collections manager will want answers long before the ritual humiliation of the conference call.

As to why they put you in the situation? - It's because they either had a breakdown in communication and they thought you were trained or they are not very bright.

Just go and ask at the office is not exactly the sort of statement that should have followed the the OPG said he could not do the job.

Happened in my office, I got put on collections and didn't know where most of the boxes were on the streets listed. Googlemaps and streetview are a Godsend in this situation! If you know in advance the collection route you are going to be on and can get hold of a copy of the collection list then 20 minutes looking at googlemaps and streetview will make it a lot easier. You can see exactly where on the street the boxes are, where the firms you collect from are (depending how old the street view is), any possible issues with parking, planing the route you will take etc.

Also ask for a copy of the PDA "Collections Visibility" booklet, it tells you how to use it for collections of mail such as PPI and Meters etc.

Its pretty straight forward without that, PDA will ask if any mail to collect, what type (click relevant tick box) if PPI scan barcode, click next job done.

follow the sat nav on the pda and get a print off of the order of collections.

^Make sure you get a PDA with working Satnav before you leave the key-locker. It's pot luck getting a PDA with working satnav where I work.

When I was a 'spare' driver a couple weeks ago, everyday for 2 weeks I was on a different 'Blind' run.

The way I think of it: If Royal Mail won't give me proper training, they're not going to get a proper result.
