Royal Mail Caterpillar (CAT) Trainers Footwear Outstanding Orders & Replacement Trials of Anvil Blacktail Waterproof Trainer and the YDS Hermes (Gore) Trainer: 
  
This is an update report further to LTBs 107/13 and 920/12.

As Branches will know, the "Caterpillar (CAT) Trainer" has been a popular footwear style in the Royal Mail Official range, amongst members, who generally found them comfortable and easy to wear. However, it was agreed by Royal Mail that the due to the Caterpillar (CAT) Trainer Shoe not offering the water resistance or durability standards required by the business, they would search for a suitable alternative 'Trainer' type shoe to trial as a possible replacement in the Royal Mail Footwear Range.

Subsequently Royal Mail identified two possible Trainer Type Shoe alternatives, similar in style to the Caterpillar (CAT) Trainer. These were the:- 

- "Anvil Blacktail Waterproof Trainer" 
- "YDS Hermes (Gore) Trainer". 

Extensive trials of both types have been undertaken and the Trials of the new style Trainers have been concluded.

Royal Mail Uniform/Assets Management submitted a case paper for the replacement for the CAT trainer, which went forward to the Board and has been approved for both the new types which were trialled.

Due to the fact both trial Trainers were well received, the decision has been made to introduce them both.

YDS Trainers will be the first to be introduced and then Anvil.

Anvil Trainers will not be ordered just yet  as the manufacturers have a few small modifications to make and resolve a problem with the uppers, which is anticipated and will be completed in the next few weeks.

The order has been placed for the YDS Trainers and will they will become available for Offices to order for staff in approximately the next 120 days.







With regards to current CAT Trainer Orders, we have been made aware that in the mean time Royal Mail Uniform are currently out of stock of sizes 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 of the CAT trainers. However, Royal Mail are expecting two deliveries this month one on the 18th and one on the 28th in total 8730 pairs which will cover all back orders

My current shoes have holes in the bottom and no tread on the right foot. Seeing as I have ordered a replacement pair weeks ago, when I slip and injure myself on delivery, or suffer trench-foot, who is at fault?

6 types of footwear on offer and the crappy, cheap, last 2 days ones are the ones that everyone goes for.

I find most of the others resemble those oversized magnetic boots like the ones worn to keep prisoners grounded to the floor in the film Face/Off. They are horrible for driving in as well, unless you like pressing the brake and the clutch at the same time.

YDS Trainers are excellent. Everything the Cats are not. Mine have lasted 10 months and still waterproof and have grip left and I mean grip, not ice skates like are on the cats!
