overtime inbetween strike days

Hi.

My dom says no overtime will be given to strikers inbetween strike days. No protraction on delivery allowed or paid. The rep says no profit can be gained because of a strike.

Is this correct? Thanks.

Other than Scheduled Attendance, overtime on any given day is booked at the manager's discretion (usually there would be some kind of structure to this agreed with the local rep in terms of traffic, absence etc). If the manager wanted to adopt a no pressure O/T policy then they could if they wanted to. Obviously if no-one will be paid for working over their hours then everyone should start and finish on time and take all their proper breaks

Ultimately it's making a bad situation worse for RM's customers (because mail will take longer to be delivered) and ends up being counter-productive

Also, if O/T is preferentially available to people who didn't go on strike, then that's a different issue for your local rep or higher

So if I was refused overtime and a strike breaker given the overtime I was refused, would their be grounds for discrimination?

Yes if the manager gives overtime to a free loader and refuses to give you overtime then it is a case of discrimination.
If this happens get in contact with your rep ASAP.

Ok. Thankyou. Is this in writing somewhere? My rep says we can't earn extra through striking, even if you would normally book overtime on delivery normally week in week out. Is that right?

Presumably your office has an agreed system for allocating O/T - e.g. aggregate, first-timers etc. If the manager stops using the agreed system then your rep should raise a disagreement

The 2 people egging you on to take on your manager are Mail Centre/Processing.

Overtime in delivery is usually at manager's discretion. I am not aware of any agreed way of allocating OT - perhaps, because in delivery a lot of posties do not do delivery OT; they will do indoor work and office and come in early but the managers tend to almost beg people to do OT.

I suppose it might be different in large delivery office.

All overtime is kind of at the managers discretion.
But it must be done in a fair and equal manner, otherwise they can open themselves up to a discrimination case.
Giving OT to a strike breaker whilst refusing OT to a striker would be exactly that. Discrimination, pure and simple.
RM are also supposed to have a policy of not giving OT at all, to anyone, during IA. It's seen as rewarding strike action.

Where did you pull that fact from?
Potential overtime arrangements should form part of the weekly resource meeting with the rep.
All overtime must be allocated on a fair and impartial basis to all who wish to be involved.

The way forward agreement states...

17.15 Ad hoc overtime to be determined by line managers and allocated by the Resourcing Unit using the new standard aggregate system.

I'm currently 2 months behind on mortgage but I will strike in hope of saving our future for as long as we can. Yes, I will do overtime between strikes in hope of making up a bit of loss, I can't do much because of child care issues.

Would you prefer i become a strike breaker and do overtime also?

I'm currently 2 months behind on mortgage but I will strike in hope of saving our future for as long as we can. Yes, I will do overtime between strikes in hope of making up a bit of loss, I can't do much because of child care issues.

Is their any part time jobs you could do near you looking after a counter or leaflet distribution keep that one quite strikes hurt all but work is work I am sure your fellow workers would not mind you not being on the picket line if you could provide for your family with work on your strike day I would not have a problem with it.

Good idea but I doubt I'd be able to pick up any work elsewhere on strike days. I'll stand on the gate with my fellow workers.
