Attention Billy and Dave Let`s Get Rolling

Post by strangler »

I`ll be pissed off to say the least if there is no announcement today on cwu site about rolling strikes. Never mind if negotiations are making progress or not, the strikes must kick in next monday, every day this doesn`t happen is an opportunity missed to keep the backlogs as big as possible. We didn`t strike just to let the days go by and give RM the opportunity to play catch up and for people to make inroads into the backlog on weekend overtime, etc. Billy and Dave don`t drag your heels and make another cock up for f**k sake!

I agree that the point of the four day strike was to get RM back to the bad position it was in at the end of the last strike period. So as said action needs to be weekly to keep up the pressure!

Rolling strike dates

Post by mailjock »

Legally the union has to give set notice periods for the rolling strike action but it would be stupidity to give management any more notice than is necessary as that just helps their attempts to try and shift some mail.

It's really easy to criticise strike leaders and negotiators - much, much harder to actually do the job with all the pressure that it entails - especially knowing that the livelihoods of over 100,000 workers could suffer if you make any error in judgement.

Not many people have the bottle to carry that kind of load so before making any attacks on the union leadership then you should ask yourself - would I be prepared to do their job? And if the answer is 'Yes' well why don't you go and get a full-time union job.

Sure tensions are high just now but our energy should be used in supporting the strike pickets, getting our message out to members of the public and defending our union as it's the only chance we have of defeating this management who want a return to the Dark Ages in terms of workers rights.

:Applause :Applause Exactly my point. On news 24 it sounded as though flexibiliity is the sticking point in the talks. Announce the dates for next week, they can always be cancelled if a deal is reached.
I`m sure they are trying to do what they can in talks, but they have to have 'plan b' ie rolling strikes in position to apply further pressure. It`s called 'turning the screw' (or should that be screws).
If not, in theory:
RM could be stalling yet again, talks break down end of week and then cwu announce rolling action-so that`s this week and the 7 days notice = 2 weeks to clear the backlog (which according to some reports isn`t that big).
Back to square 1, do you think people will do this all over again only for the union to f**k up once more?
