Would sooner Dave Ward fronted the cameras. Billy just doesn't come across well, at all.

How long Billy and Dave be head of union as I can't recall there is an election to vote for them or another top dog for union in almost 8 years.

In this day of media coverage the CWU need a professional front man to handle the situations in front of the camera.

Sadly Billy simply gives the wrong image. You would still have Dave and others in the background actually doing most of the work.
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

Billy - Election was 2011 for 5 year term. So next is 2016. He was unopposed.

Dave Ward - Election was 2013. Think its 2 years? He was also unopposed.

People at the top get stale in all walks of life after a long time in one job...

Sadly, we also have a parliamentary and electoral system that can allow an MP or PM to be in office for as long as they keep getting voted in; cue Thatcher and Blair - all they needed was 30% of the vote and a good dose of bribery or war to keep getting relected.

I voted for reforms the last time they wanted to change the system but it became a political football and an attack on Clegg.

Limited terms - max of terms and then resignation just like the US Presidency. If the candidate is good enough they can contest again after a 4 or 5 year break.

he got almost thirty grand in back holiday after last strike so call him what you want he aint daft

Ive met him and he seems a nice guy but I watched him on Sky news yesterday and I was cringing at him, he really should not be put in front of a camera, Dave Ward is far better, at least he can answer questions without giving the same answer over and over again.

The worrying thing is that man is one of the heads of our union, someone we trust to put out message accross to the public, i'm 100% confident i could speak better than him if needed, the man comes accross as a fool on TV, such a shame.

Factually correct although a little misrepresentative.

The strikes were in 2009.

He claimed the holiday money back (which I have comment on before :sad: ) in 2012.

I think it's all a bit strange. I was told by my rep that Mr Hayes has called this election early and he doesn't need to. Why would he do that? Especially as he's coming up for retirement anyway and apparently he is already on his pension. What is the retirement age in the UCW. Is it the same as us. That Billy Ward is a bit too London for me as well. He can talk alright on the telly but is anyone else going to stand against them in the election? or is it just 2 people.
