IS THIS THE END OF THE UNION ?

First of all I'm totally with the union and I'll have to say I think in the next coming years we are going to need them more than ever BUT the general feeling I'm getting in the workplace and off this forum is lack of faith in them. It's no secret in previous topics I've wrote the poor representation we have at our office, 100+ guys paying £3 a week for what ?? because everything the DOM's wanted to bring in ..he's done with no opposition whatsoever . Back to the initial question in the title " is this the end " I don't think I've seen so many or read so many views from disgruntled and bewildered union members at any one time and the turn out for the picket line and the breaking of the picket line will be a indication of the unions grip on it's members. Once again I have to say I'm in total favour of the union and I truly do think we need them more than ever but unfortunately I do think the clout and the power and the trust in a lot of it's members is disappearing rapidly, I do think the next few months and the outcome of it will have a significant effect on the union membership and it's numbers.

Surely with 100+ guys saying no the the dom and sticking together you would have maybe been more successful in stopping some of things being brought in. DOM's don't take long to realise how strong a union presence is at a certain office, if its strong then dom will have to get on with the rep but if it isn't then dom will play on it.

Can a non rep go round staff and advise them to join the union? And is there forms reg joinin the union one could hand out ?

Sorry I could of worded it better, when I stated " with no opposition whatsoever " I didn't mean we all just stand by a let it happen we DO have major issues and we do voice them collectively as a group ( to no use ) but when we need our rep all he does is holds his hands up and says " what can I do " .." it's there decision ".."I'm powerless"
Ps the DOM does get on with the rep because he's the one who does the majority of docket for them !!

Yes.
And yes - you could ask your Branch for some but it is quicker and easier to join online.

I don;t think the union reps are any good at all, the only way we got something done to our problem was for EVERYBODY in that day , to leave the floor and ask to see the boss higher than the office dom.
He was down in a flash , we got our problem sorted and he was caking it. No sign of any rep. Work to rule. No subs needed.

Protected from dismissal by the manager BECAUSE there was a union! Otherwise you would be on the dole!
Collective bargaining kept you in a bloody job!

The CWU has only itself to blame.
No union worthy of the name should have made the agreement they made in 2010. It has been nothing less than an utter disaster for postal workers.
But, we must put up some sort of resistance to what millionaire executives at Royal Mail want to do to us, even if it turns out to be just token. We must have pride in ourselves, and stand up for good honest principles.

I only pay union subscriptions for the national agreements really, our local reps aren't much use for anything, especially with the re-election of Ron Jeremy again. Shite he's in for another two years winning by only 10 votes. No local representation for two years.
