Re: Holiday sheet
Ours is done on seniority. Top to bottom first choice first two weeks, bottom to top second two weeks.
Questioned the rep.
Told that's the way its always been done and most people happy so no need to change.
Obviously the law can be completely ignored if it suits you.
Another reason not to strike to protect the I'm alright Jack brigade which exists in most offices.

Re: Holiday sheet
Ours is done by seniority first two weeks, then 1 week, then 1 week, etc.
The only ones who complain are those at the top of the list...... they want to pick their 6 weeks before anyone else has a chance

Re: Holiday sheet
How do you share things fairly?
When it comes to selecting managers, friends and family are chosen but the official reason given is 'merit' not connections. Why is 'merit' more acceptable than connections? Provided candidates had the minimum aptitude required to be a manager, seniority would be a much fairer and objective method for selecting managers as all managers receive regular training.
Selection of annual leave by seniority is unfair because juniors are paying for the seniors' loyalty bonus instead of the company paying the reward. Some argue that the practical advantage of using seniority is that it is harder for management to fiddle but if senior favourites are allowed to cancel at busy periods and get extra 'backdoor' leave (unregistered sick) at less busy periods, this system can also be bypassed.
The fairest method of sharing is the aggregate system that works well for overtime provided the lists are public and regularly updated. Could an aggregate system work for annual leave?
