I have jury service next week, my dom is telling me my
Day off is tuesday and I must come in on saturday surely
That cant be right. Im at court monday to friday is that not my

The Sat is then your day off, unless you don't have to appear in court on the Tue. Days that you are not required to attend, you turn up for work as normal then.

Tell the judge that your learned screw has informed you that you should not attend court on the Tuesday cause the w****r wants you in on the Sat.

No he can't do that, you should have told him overtime is voluntary not compulsory.

RM won't be paying your wage anyway, they claim it back off the court services.

Ask your DOM to put it into writing that your day off is Tuesday and you can not attend court that day as you would be doing forced overtime.

Or to put it another way, your DOM is short staffed and is taking the piss.

Ask your DOM to put it into writing that your day off is Tuesday and you can not attend court that day as you would be doing forced overtime.

This should be on your weekly duty sheet. Just photo copy or take photo on your mobile phone

Speak to your DOM and tell him that your jury service will be of 5 days duration, the same as your working week. Therefore if you wish to attend on the Saturday it will be at overtime rate, however there is no compulsion on you to so do!

Saturday is your day off when on Jury service. Did it myself the other year and there were no arguments or suggestions that I needed to go in on the saturday. Your manager is trying it on, tell him to go poke it!

The last person I knew on Jury service was paid by RM, and they claimed off the court.
Ring HR and they should be able to confirm the process.
Also ask at the court, for clarification.

When I did it RM paid me as normal. At the end of my service I had to submit a claim form part of which should be filled in by your manager. I was then paid by the court and had to advise RM how much I was paid for loss of earnings which I then had to pay back to RM. You can chose if you want to pay it back to RM in one lump or in instalments which are then deducted from your pay directly. Travel costs and a daily allowance for lunch (about £5 a day for lunch) you get to keep. Where I was, you had the choice of using a prepaid card to use in the court canteen or to claim back the £5 a day in your expenses.

RM were pretty quick to ask for the money back so don't expect them to forget about it.

I really enjoyed it and even made a small profit (RM don't pay for my lunch or travel!)
