CWU Strike pay?

Just a general enquiry. During the Ambulance Service strike of the early 1990's, Unison and GMB payed Strike pay to staff who took Industrial action. Havn't seen this discussed anywhere, Does the CWU pay strike pay under any circumstance during IA? Thanks to anyone for info.

Why would you need strike pay, hardship pay for a one days strike? i'm sorry but anyone can a afford a loss of one days pay, beans on toast anyone?

Yep have to agree Strike pay after a few days action lol, your either a wee bit soft with your money or you should consider striking for better pay. Oh that last one is sorted i see

So wrong, one of our lads was off sick for months, he has got behind with his rent and loosing a days pay is the last thing he needs. Will you be insulting him if he caves in and crosses the picket line? Or maybe if you are flush you'll pay his rent for him.

he was off over a year, just pointing out not everyone can afford to loose a days pay. In his situation I would worry about being homeless now rather than what might happen in a year or two.

We have so many part timers who think they are s**t on a daily basis by us full timers that have said they will be working, most not union members. I think the union know they are going to struggle to maintain support, especially if it drags on. Easy to be mouthy and the big I am on a internet forum. They need to hurry up with the 2nd ballot, I haven't spoken to a single person that doesn't support what is proposed.

When someone is off on long term sick they are not classed as been on Industrial action FACT. As if one or 2 days action will effect his situation. What about the couples with kids that will take the hit. Oh and what about all the boys and girls down the years who had the Nuts to make a stand for their T&C's and take a short term hit in their pay so people like your mate are getting industry leading standards on sick pay. There are some right stupid and selfish people out there.

He is not off sick now, back on light duties trying to get his life sorted, he has supported every strike in all the years I have known him unlike a few that have and never will strike. Everyone has to do what is right for them, I will be out, but I will understand why he isn't if he goes in. I will never understand the others.

Thanks TBT for the information about the hardship fund. It's good to know that there is a safety net for those who will be genuinely in need during the IA.

The cwu should stop funding the Labour Party and use that money to give it it's members when they strike.

Agreed, they are now supporting performance related pay for teachers. They are like litmus paper. Red one minute, blue the next. Time the Trade Union Movement drew up a better represented political party.

I am sure after the recent crap about renationalisation and then labour just saying they wont do it there will be a big debate in it at CWU conference next year.
Might be worth people getting to there branch AGM and pushing a motion for a vote on it!

not sure anyone has the right to judge people who go in on strike days its down to the person to live with there own actions and before you ask have been in the job over 24 years and backed every strike.
