Walking across gardens to save time?

Hi there,

I'm a new postie and I was just wondering is it alright to walk across gardens rather than having to keep walking round for every single house? It would save a hell a lot of time and I'm obviously not talking about walking over flowers or anything like that... just grass gardens where you can clearly walk over it without effecting anything else like plants or whatever junk they might have on the garden.

some people are ok, some people will complain, so it is better to avoid it if possible.

I never have, except where specifically told I can.
There's enough other problems in the job without the possibility of complaints about that too.

Sorry its a def no no ,its a H/S issue if you take a short cut across a garden (grass )and u slip and do an injury to yourself the PO will put the blame on you .THE PO INSTRUCT YOU not to take short cuts ,reading your mail while walking ,throwing your leg over fences, running etc but the sad factor is THEY TURN A BLIND EYE TO IT as its quicker .But if something goes wrong they will bounce you DO THE JOB PROPERLY AS INSTRUCTED BY PO

also- if it was my garden and you walked over it daily- there would be dead grass where you walked quite quickly... i would be really annoyed...

yeah you can walk across swimming pools too, should try it saved 10 mins

Don't do it you never know what's lurking in undergrowth do the job properly or if you do cut corners to save time the monkeys will just give you more work & when people like me who do the job properly are put on the delivery it makes us look slow as I ain't cutting corners only to be given more - think about it

I don't like people walking across my grass so I never walk across anyone's either.

I throw all the post in the big bins outside the office. Saves time on delivery. All the time.

Not if your an agency worker as we have actually had this happen, twice !

When you get walk-tested you are told you must not walk over grass, hop over walls etc etc. No, never do it, do the job properly, a fair days work for a fair days pay. If you trip over a wall and break something they will sack you, or put you on sick with no pay. You will get no thanks from this company for risking your safety or cutting corners.
