Sore Feet!

Post by cweg »

Hey guys,

I'm a new postie. Been out doing deliveries for about a week and I'm enjoying it, but my feet are killing me after work! Can hardly feel my car's pedals on the drive home!

Probably doesn't help that I wear Adidas Sambas to work but I don't have much to choose from!

I ordered CAT boots on my second day as I've had a pair of them before and got on quite well with them but I'm wondering if I made the right choice. Would have been nice to try on some of the footwear on offer before ordering them!

Anyway, I'm just wondering if any of you have any tips for relieving the pain as I'm sure you've all endured it. I bought some Dunlop gel insoles but they don't seem to be doing much. I might go to the doctor and try for prescription ones if the pain continues after I get my boots.

it's going to take your body a while to get accustomed to the beating it takes daily.

your feet will get used to it same as your legs will. the cat boots will help as they have quite good cushioning.

trouble with the samba's is they are quite flat and dont have much support for your feet.

When you get home from work, take your shoes and socks off and place a golf ball on the floor place your foot on it and gently apply pressure while moving your foot around,if you are getting blisters try swabbing your feet with surgical spirits this will harden the skin and keep them clean, hydrogen peroxide is very good for feet but turns them dark brown and you cannot buy it any more as it has some other dodgy uses.

yeah, don't jump up and down once you have applied the hydrogen peroxide.

Are you using a trolley or have you got weight on the shoulder because that wont help.
For blisters put your feet in urine it toughens the skin

Cheers for the replies guys.

I just carry the bags on my shoulder from box to box on my current duty. Could have really used a trolley today though as one of the bags was massive and had to be split. Had to dead walk back about 500 yards for the second half. :mad

Haven't even been shown where the trolleys are kept or how to use them yet, but I'll be on to my manager about that tomorrow.

No sign of any blisters or anything yet. I'm mostly fine apart from my soles and a wee bit of a sore shoulder after today.

I'll give the golf ball trick a go tonight. :thumbup

As others have said its a pain barrier which we all go through.

If possible rest your feet as much as you can at home and wear some soft slippers etc. I hot bowl of radox for your feet when you finish will help.

Try to keep your socks dry in this wetter weather. I carry a spare pair and sometimes have to change.

The Cat boots will need some breaking in first before you take them out on delivery.

Soak your feet in dissolved Epsom Salts.
The chemist will think you are constipated but ......

cweg, you don't say how old you are. I started last Feb at the age 58. I didn't get any RM shoes for 6 months and went through 3 pairs of trainers. I then got some Magnum shoes. If find these really comfortable. I put some Scholl foam insoles in them and wear two pairs of socks (the black cotton sports type). This makes a very tight but (to me) a very comfortable fit and there is no movement that would cause chaffing or sores.

By the way for the first three months I was wasted every afternoon for about 4 or 5 hours after getting home. 20 months in and after a 30 min sit down I am ready for anything.

I'm 27. I'm in pretty decent shape, just not used to pounding this much pavement it seems. My walking socks seem to be serving me well as I haven't had any blisters yet (first purchase I made after accepting the job!).

It's really annoying because I'd be enjoying the walk if my feet weren't throbbing for the last hour or two, but I'm sure I'll get used to it after a few weeks.

I think I'll give my feet the spa treatment this weekend. Epsom salt is on the shopping list. :thumbup

Good support for your foot is needed the cat trainers seem ok but they wear down quickly
apparently you should always keep good tread to avoid things like Plantar fascitus a quite serious
foot complaint you will naturally need some time to run in .

I ordered the CAT boots as I don't think the trainers would be much use in Scottish winter weather. How long does it take for uniform orders to come in usually? Think I might need the big coat soon the way the weather is going!

"The Big Coat" what concrete? :Very Happy......oh you mean the "waterproof" one?

After about 2 hours of torrential rain, your arms will be running with water, and your shoulders will start to feel the same. They have no internal thermal layer and so in winter you need to wear a fleece or some other under jacket to keep warm

The uniform generally turns up within a few days unless your size is out of stock, that tends to happen a lot with the footwear, then its anyones guess.

Get some thick rubber insoles off amazon or ebay. They are just as good if not better than the expensive brand ones you get in the shops! The foam ones that you cut to size yourself are ok but don't last long. Thick rubber ones that ask you your size before ordering that's what you need. Trust me, I got that "stonechip ball of the foot" problem with my feet and since I started putting insoles in my feet are fine! :nana
