Is someone drawing this to their attention then dingo? Or the fact the government was elected on low 30s% of the vote , and then proceeded to sell us off cheaply, so they and Moya et all could get their greedy noses in the trough

A general election has no basis for comparison with a strike ballot and actually the government is made up of a coalition which together received 59% of the vote. The FraudSquad wrote:dingo wrote:The Business Transformation Agreement was accepted on the following result 117073 ballot papers dispatched. 63843 ballots papers were dispatched (54%turnout )

Well this was more a less a free vote on conscience - BT2010 well we all have our views on that and if it was the vote RM wanted then the union certainly played their part wouldn't you say? Actually you probably wouldn't say.dingo wrote:The Business Transformation Agreement was accepted on the following result 117073 ballot papers dispatched. 63843 ballots papers were dispatched (54%turnout )

Postal ballots were brought in to undermine turnout,If the government wants a higher turnout let us have our workplace ballots back.78% of FBU members vote to strike. Turnout of 60% solid and respectable, and very much at upper end of spectrum for union ballots.

Different scenarios granted, but the turnout in the general election was 65% ! It's democracy in action, the majority of those that voted voted yes. Instead of concentrating on twisting the figures the company should accept the workers have given a big v sign to their plansBrain Fury wrote:A general election has no basis for comparison with a strike ballot and actually the government is made up of a coalition which together received 59% of the vote. The FraudSquad wrote:dingo wrote:The Business Transformation Agreement was accepted on the following result 117073 ballot papers dispatched. 63843 ballots papers were dispatched (54%turnout )

Re: Did Royal Mail question this result ?
As I said GEs cannot be compared to a strike ballot. The number that voted in favour of a strike is a matter of fact so nobody is twisting figures. I think RM is quite clear where things stand. The FraudSquad wrote:Different scenarios granted, but the turnout in the general election was 65% ! Disagree, they have used all the Cwu members who didn't vote, and the non members , and those who voted no, and added them together to come up with those figure who didn't vote for a strike.Brain Fury wrote:As I said GEs cannot be compared to a strike ballot. On that basis a majority of the electorate didn't vote for the current incumbent government

Re: Did Royal Mail question this result ?
Nobody said that the majority of the electorate did vote for the current government but don't you see a difference between people not engaging in the political process and people not engaging in a yes / no decision on whether to strike in support of their own pay and conditions? It's perfectly possible for someone to say I'm not voting because none of the parties represent my views but rather difficult to say that yes or no doesn't cover my opinion on whether to strike or not.The FraudSquad wrote:Disagree, they have used all the Cwu members who didn't vote, and the non members , and those who voted no, and added them together to come up with those figure who didn't vote for a strike.Brain Fury wrote:As I said GEs cannot be compared to a strike ballot. Your argument is misdirected though.
As I've already pointed out which you have ignored the turnout for the CWU ballot was in the "upper end of spectrum for union ballots".
In 2011 24 unions with over 3 million members took industrial action over Government pension reforms.
The average yes vote was 78% and the average turnout was 44%.
Unison's turnout was 29%
Our 63% turnout blows them all away so what's your point?

Re: Did Royal Mail question this result ?
Despite what some say the verdict is strike action, for those who are prepared for others to stand up for them in the fight shame on you.
We as a union will stand up for our terms and conditions and are ready for industrial action while the doubters and the pessimists stand by and snipe.

Re: Did Royal Mail question this result ?
It is also a point that Moya has suggested in the Courier that 72% of the population say we should not take strike action and should accept the terms originally on offer. This was a Mori poll commissioned by our leader.
How many people did they poll. May I suggest somewhat short of a million people.
Therefore if that is the case 720,000 out of 68,000,000 less minors of course is what she is basing her Courier result on. I think the percentages CWU have earned make hers look pathetic by comparison.

Re: Did Royal Mail question this result ?
My point was that comparing the strike ballot to a general election is invalid. I didn't question how the RM ballot relates to other union ballots.fishtank wrote:Brain Fury wrote:Nobody said that the majority of the electorate did vote for the current government but don't you see a difference between people not engaging in the political process and people not engaging in a yes / no decision on whether to strike in support of their own pay and conditions?

Re: Did Royal Mail question this result ?
Sampling a 1000 or so people is typical for a public opinion poll. Of course what we don't know (but can guess) is whether the full offer was communicated or whether it just focused on the pay element. I don't doubt that the majority of the public think 8.6% over 3 years is a good offer.Lincox wrote:It is also a point that Moya has suggested in the Courier that 72% of the population say we should not take strike action and should accept the terms originally on offer.
