I have been in the job since I was 16,I have always supported strike action,but not this time.
a better way to deal with the situation would be work to rule for a whole week.
that way no one would lose a days pay.
the majority of the public would be unaffected and doing this for a whole week would have a bigger effect than one days action,because we all know what happens,just extra workload the next day!
and one final thought,why don't the union call for strike action on a Saturday?sure they would get more support that way :-)

If you are outside the gate you cannot be bullied into breaking a work to rule.
The same people would ignore the work to rule as would ignore the picket line but probably pick up a lot more overtime.
Sadly and against our instincts as proud posties, affecting the public adds to the pressure on RM to resolve the situation - causing them a minor inconvenience gets us nowhere.
Extra workload will only be done by people working before time, during breaks and on extended delivery (which for all of us is optional).
Calling the strike on a Saturday does not affect major business customers and gives RM a whole five days to accelerate DSA, Mailsort etc for earlier delivery, so you will get your excessive workload before the strike instead of after which will make things very convenient for the soundbites after saying "We were unaffected by the action"

If the majority of the public is unaffected, what's the point? Financially, a strike is supposed to punish the company by causing customers to go elsewhere. That's the long and short of it.

If we're going to do something useless, why not have a dance-off every night when we get off work? Each local CWU chapter can rent out a local pub or catering hall and we can boogie our way to not getting a better deal. It'll be loads of fun and a lot less tedious than making sure the lock is down on our Yorks every time we park them.

I work in an office were traditionally only 30-40% of staff go out on strike days.

I will never cross a picket line, whether I agree with the action or not.

Talking to people in my office I suspect an even lower than usual turnout, and there will be little inconvenience caused, people seem to think RM aren't going to offer any better than they have, and yes, people remember what the last set of strikes 'Achieved'.

Working to Rule would cause RM far more problems, and would be more likely to be supported by those not willing or able to lose wages, and can be applied for an extended period.

It would also show up the reality of these revisions.

An all out strike is unlikely to be supported fully.

And working to rule wouldn't work. RM would simply hire agency staff to cover the remaining uncovered work.
And, everybody should already be working to rule anyway.
