I don't understand why we only ever (in my experience) strike one day per week, why don't we just come out on Monday and stay out until an agreement is reached? By going back in after one day the damage done is rectified too quicky.

One day strikes are more effective in my opinion because if processing goes out the day before delivery then most delivery staff will have very little to do but still get their full days pay. It creates a bigger back log.

I agree to some extent, but would've thought Thursday would've been the best day. When deliveries go in on Friday, it won't clear, and Saturday will fail as people will just think 'feck it'. So the backlog will roll into the next week.

we have not had details of the first day of action yet.
If for example the first day of IA were to commence at midday on Monday the 4th,then the 24 hours of industrial action would bring in late shift ,night shift at a mail centre and then bring in early shift on the next day as the 24 hours had not concluded.
One day of IA is very effective and yet minimal in the loss of pay for people.
This is short term pain for people I know ,but the long term if we do not fight we will be much worse with privatisation dominating

I agree, if it must be a one day strike, thursday would be better, rather than Monday or Tuesday which are comparitively light days.

But Mondays are the busiest day of the week for collections and processing.
That's one of the reasons Wednesday is busy, all the 2nd class posted Monday.
The strike means most boxes and PO's will have had a collection Saturday lunchtime and then nothing until Tuesday lunchtime.

Personally I would rather have seen a far longer strike to set down a marker,at least 48hrs but preferably even longer but given the number of people on here practically shitting themselves at the prospect of losing one day's pay and maybe having to cancel that Sky subscription for a month it's probably for the best.

If we are expecting a deal to be done before the event, announcing a 48hr strike wouldn't have made any difference and would have played well to the gallery.
