Probably one of my most contentious posts.

On this forum, typed here in black and white are pages and pages of, 'Hate this, s**t that, Manager/DOM bullying blah, blah etc etc.

And when the time comes to stand up against all of it !! - many back down like sheep. What are you guys playing at ? - The biggest and most important single decision probably of your time working for RM and you bend over and get the Vaseline out

I fear and see that RM execs have got you all over a barrel, the job will not get any easier in fact you'll be fighting now for your positions in the years to come. Top level RM will work you to the core whilst demanding results to pass to shareholders. - I've seen it happen in many another company. Think you'll get a pay rise in year 4 & 5 ?? - hahaha you wish. Shareholders dividends and liquidity results to show first.

You think you work hard now - you ain't seen nothing yet.

Even the CWU which I'm afraid to say has also over the last few months also bent over to take the Vaseline could have been at this harder and sharper instead of the dilly dallying about which has caused the delay in ballot, the delay in results and will probably line up the pole and accept a crap offer. - Once this is done, it's done people. No going back. Just pure slog. Even the BBC 4 interview with Ward today made himself sound silly. The presenter was asking some basic questions about the strike and he was blithering and not giving concise answers ! - All this bloody propaganda that has been shoved through the letterbox over the last few weeks, he could have at least the answer to a few basic questions.

I'm amazed at the low ballot results, I'm guessing that financially many of you guys could not go into 3 or 4 days strike. RM are banking on this to a degree. - I say that yes, those who said NO or abstained will take their few hundred quid and the dangled carrots and sleep easy. - RM worker have been officially screwed over, in certain cases by it's own employees... the same who bitch moan day in day out.

Well I'm sure this may cause debate amongst many of you - indeed it seems there are many gutless moaners. - Who are just that. For those bending over and taking the shafting, I wish you well and hope that what you wish for comes true for the sake of a few hundred quid.

For the others that are standing firm and really want the employees rights/working conditions/pensions protected, then I'll see you at the gate.

Don't think the unions done its job right in explaining the importance of this vote. Every time I asked our rep what was going on or happening he didn't know no meetings nothing !!! If we get shafted in this one then a lot will be leaving the union

You're lucky to see that sort of turnout for a general election, for whatever reason any kind of ballot is unlikely to get more than 65/70% turnout.

I'll answer the question.
Some couldn't be arsed.
Some might have wanted to vote no but couldn't bring themselves to do it.
Some might have wanted to vote yes but couldn't bring themselves to do it.
Some might not have received their ballot paper.
Some probably put it down somewhere and couldn't find it again.
Some forgot to fill it in.
Some forgot to post it.
Somebody's kid probably drew pictures all over it.
Somebody's dog ate it.
Somebody's cat pissed all over it.
One slept with their mate's wife,got caught and is in the middle of divorce proceedings.
One lost the ability to write.
One couldn't find a pen.
One member died when an auto-asphyxiation role playing night went badly wrong.

I think both the 63% turnout and the 78% yes vote are great results. It was 2 candidate election, and the one who had all the funding and sent out 90% of the election propaganda got hammered. They even tried to bribe the voters.

There are a decent number of people amongst our colleagues who wouldn't vote for anything even if their lives literally depended on it. You can't expect them to put a cross on a piece of paper for something as poxy as their jobs.

The morons will take their carrot, cross the line and whinge like crazy during the next savings thinking they are exempt little strikebreakers.

Then three years down the line when the companies asset stripped, mass redundancies are made,every ones now covering even more duties and there's wage decreases, which is the reality of privatization see how they will cry then. Every time a pathetic bribe is placed in front of them they fall for it.

As for the union. Don't you think as usual its absolutely too little too late. Why wait until its actually in private ownership to call a ballot ? Same when the pension was screwed over and they only acted at the last minute to no avail. What about delivering DSA. How long were we delivering the crap at an almost loss to the company before they finally did some thing. I am a union member but totally despair with their Laurel and Hardy handling of any given situation.

Here we go again, different people have different reasons for either breaking or supporting the strike. No amount of intimidation can change the fact that it truly is different strokes an all that stuff. Yes yes yes, hate the strike breakers while offering your very life if it makes you happy but please don't fool yourself in the process.

For what it's worth the low turn out in the ballot is because people are at worst a bunch of cynics and at best realistic. The days of the powerful unions are long gone, everything is about money and we are nothing but worker ants so best get used to it. I've been in the business long enough to realise how poorly the cwu have represented us, I'm sure we all remember the futile gestures that were the strikes in 2007 and 2009. I dare say we'll probably manage a few concessions this time around, (the no strike policy for example) perhaps we'll better the three year deal by a year or two but it all ends up the same.

Despite our previous striking we still ended up in a job from hell, despite having a union we still endure the farce that is P&L and so forth and despite our willingness to fight again we will STILL end up exactly where we all know we are heading. I attended several meetings this time around, supposedly we were in the process of putting in an injunction to halt the privatisation, if it wasn't so serious it'd be funny.
Money money money, the privatisation has already happened and we did feck all to stop it and I'm not really sure we could anyway, certainly not in these times of fiscal austerity and that's all there is to it.

I will be supporting the strike, mainly on the principle of the thing but the countdown has already begun imho.

By national standards a 63% turnout is pretty good. What's more worrying is the myopic 22% who voted no.
