Postmen's shares

Post by eastie »

If all Posties are going to get shares, where is our certificate??
I know we can't sell them for 3 years but we haven't been given anything yet.
Also what happens to our dividend , do we get that each year??
Plus finally if 150,000 posties get shares, what happens if say 20% of the workforce leaves. Who gets the 20 % are they distributed amongst the rest of the posties?

No it's not a con, we have posties in our office who have bought shares worth £3000 and still not received a certificate so how can be a con, wait and see

The value and number of your shares will be determined by the price today.
How exactly could you have a certificate already?

It is a con in a sense,it was a con from the day it was announced that employees will get 10% of the shares.
It was only designed to get the staff on board,to pretend that we're all in this together and to weaken the union's position in the workplace.
The shares are real but the concept behind them is as bogus as it comes.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Totally agree with fish tank we were actually talking bout that today in work . Conned into thinking we are part of all this share bonanza! After getting £1300 stolen from us , will never believe anything they say after that . 3 years. 5 years that's a lifetime in Royal Mail time now with the way things are going .

If you are referring to the colleague shares chelsea blue, it wasn't £1,300, don't forget we were promised(sold the idea) they would be worth £5,000 originally after the 5 yr period.

Correct, they have offered us nothing. This money was always there as they conned us when not paying out on Colleague Shares. As Fish said this was purely a ploy to prepare the way for privatisation and to increase the numbers of non dissenters among the ranks. Job done, union outflanked and now a much bigger fight on our hands than before.

Just read on myroyalmail that the allocation may exceed the £3000 limit set by hmrc. this means that we might have to get the allocation split into next year

Share price performance means employee’s £3,000 annual limit could be exceeded
HMRC requires us to value the initial allocation of Free Shares based on the closing mid-price when the London Stock Exchange closes today (15 October 2013)
Based on Royal Mail’s share price performance to date, it is possible - but by no means certain - that the initial market value of a full-time employee’s Free Shares could exceed their £3,000 annual limit.

If this were to happen, an allocation worth as close to £3,000 but not exceeding it would be made to each eligible full-time employee on 15 October 2013.

All the surplus shares not allocated to individual eligible employees on 15 October 2013 will be allocated as soon as possible after the beginning of the new tax year on 6 April 2014, subject to them remaining eligible. Eligible part-time employees will also receive their Free Shares in two allocations.

Please remember that for any allocation, the share price can go down as well as up. The actual value of an employee’s shareholding will be defined by the share price if/when they choose to sell their shares. We will keep you updated on a regular basis about the share price performance.

Next steps

We will shortly write to all eligible full-time and part-time employees to tell them the number of Free Shares they have received, the price at which they have been awarded and the initial market value of the Free Shares they have been given.

A formal allocation notice will be sent by the SIP Trustee at a later date.

Full Time staff will get 725 shares worth £3545.25 as at close of business today. Because no more than £3000 can be allocated any financial year, within a SIP, initial allocation will be 613 shares worth £2997.57

Remainder will be allocated as soon as possible in 2014-2015 financial year. Every FT employee expected to recieve another 112 shares.

You dont get your shares in your own name they will be held in a Share incentive plan, a trustee keeps them. Only thing you get until you can pull those shares out of it is voting rights and dividends.

So i think any extra shares held by royal mail employees will not be accessible for three years! Not a good deal especially if you need your money back now!
