Well K979 is against privatisation and recognises as such it presents the reality that the T and C's of RM workers will gradually be eroded, therefore by purchasing shares it would contradict the values he holds dear, any argument about having a stake in the company, privatisation has happened anyway so may as well make a few quid, others are making a profit so why should n't I, I've worked for the organisation for x amount of years and so why should n't I be entitled for a little windfall if external stakeholders are going to benefit, are all superceded by the this core value.
I think that is pretty honourable, and even if I don't always understand all of his comments, respect him for it. But do also recognise that such values are not universally shared by all, which is fine as well.

I took my shares simply because the PO owe me from the phantom shares , I never bought any extra but I wouldn't make an issue if my mates bought extra .Maybe they are trying to get a bit of extra cash for when they go on strike .The PO put the refuse the share offer out to undermine everybody but that's the nature of the PO

Employee share ownership has often been used to divide staff and undermine solidarity,when you start using unnecessarily hyperbolic words like repugnant to describe something like not opting out it means it's already starting to work its charms.

In order to really decide whether refusal of shares was a genuine gesture of sacrifice and defiance or just the meaningless quixotic act of a faux revolutionary you would have to know the true financial position of the "activist".

Not all posties are poor and not all have the same financial burden so to some a £2.000 gesture would seem like nothing while to others it would just seem like a childish act of financial irresponsibility.

Actually it was k979 who used the word repugnant to describe buying extra shares.

How can it be an act of financial irresponsibility to refuse shares that might be worth something in 3/5 years time?
