From todays sun newspaper.
"Royal mail yesterday admitted posties face severe job losses when the company is privatised.
Job cuts could run into tens of thousands."
Thanks for selling it then, good move.

This has been the case for the last few years and was never going to change.
This isn't news.
MTSF and the overarching objective of no compulsory redundancies has made it relatively painless.
I would put money on MTSF being one of the first cost-cutting targets.

And what does interest me is what the CWU response to its almost certain extinction is going to be.

the more you cut walking jobs the higher the IHR will be.

IHR had doubled in between 2010 and 2012 and not all the revisions had been done by then.

any more increases could really accelerate the rate oif IHR's and injuries to a ridiculous level.
this surely would open the company up to being liable??

you have a hard fight on the way imo

Exactly. As Clash said above, it's no different to what's been happening for the last 10 years. It's getting tight now just to cover deliveries, our office struggles if one person goes off sick.

Bits here and there will go from deliveries as always, but to me MC's and managers are the ones who ought to be more worried. I don't know if it's a national thing but our local MC staff get twice as many breaks as us in an 8hr shift, a 40 min and 2x20 min. A few of the guys in our office do OT there and have confirmed its easy work compared to delivery.

My honest opinion is there will be no major job cuts in delivery for 5+ years as RM will pull a big profit for that period, then Saturdays will go from the USO once mail volumes become 'too low to sustain the USO without massive price rises' (RM's predicted words not mine)
