Some advice for a potential newbie!

Hi all,

I've recently had an interview to become a postman, and all went well. I have received an email offering me the role pending my answers to some questions and a criminal record check. It also asked about whether I will be working any other job. I replied to the email, then started worrying!

I wrote that I am going to continue working part-time hours in my current job in a warehouse in the evenings. Will this have any negative effect on my application?

And secondly, I truthfully answered that I have no unspent criminal convictions. But, I have a couple of police cautions from over ten years ago, and a fine for drunk and disorderly about 7 years ago. Will these be used against me? I was a lot wilder in those days!

Any insight you can give me will be brilliant,

as long as your other job does not run into your RM work time you will be fine, a lot of posties have 2nd jobs.

as for your Criminal record, it depends what the cautions were for really, although they are never spent as such they do move down your history so may not even be seen on your CRB check, D&D I would'nt worry about that one, we have all been there and done it :)

I have a caution on my record for something silly that I did back in 1999, but that did'nt stop me getting the job in 2008.

Do people really think this is a shite job. I am surprised, okay it has its problems and there are massive issues but I still honestly think its the best job I have done, but then I also believe that a job, whatever it is, is what you make of it. Okay, you need to have a strong personality, and an ability to work as part of a team and on your own, if you don't then perhaps this isn't the job for you.

I have done a lot worse jobs with a lot more pressure and stress and on a lot less money, thats why I both enjoy this job and want to protect it as much as possible.

Its not the actual job, it is the management or rather lack of it IMHO. The B & H, they try to avoid paying you for time over, ect ect.

Yep the culture is s**t on that I wholeheartedly agree - but the job - I still enjoy it, especially the Political side (CWU) of it rather than the "RealPolitik" crap that management try to pull.

i think the job was excellent from when i joined in 2006 to around 2009.

when our walks started to increase thats when i started getting issues with my knees.
i accept everyone has their own threshold but the ihr figures from 2010 to 2012 back up my story.

ihr doubled in that time....and consider this....revisions from 2010 had not even been completed by a long shot so whats the IHR figures from 2010 to present??? 300% increase?

i havent read your offer from rm but this is one area you need to make sure stays untouched by them because imo more and more will be heading down this route.
