Reps booking hols on Strike Days

I would like to know if it is acceptable for c.w.u reps to be booking hols onstrike days? peoples views very welcome

GLENNO I am not sure if you have a gripe with reps taking time off during strike,Im not a rep but consider the support givien to all at our office by our rep to be second to none. At the end of the day reps have there private lifes and prsonal reason ie family finance at the end of the day they have every wright in my mind to take it if they have to. To book a holiday you have to fill out a form and hand it to manager.When the manager sees it's the rep and on strike days thinks Guys on strike don't get paid but rep does.That'll upset them on the picket. All about tactics.

Its funny (not knocking above, Glenno, just stating facts) that people dont want to do the Reps job when the position comes up in D/O`s, and then dont back the Person who is elected, but do moan when there is a problem. Remember people can vote the Rep out if they have genuine cause, but if they dont, they should back the elected person. All reps are different, and they are only as strong as the other people in the unit, so people should reflect, when they say the Rep is weak, what they should say is WE are weak. From direct experience, people in the BRIDGEWATER OFFICE dont say the Rep is weak, because that person reflects the office `as a whole`!

Maybe the rep had pre booked his annual leave? One of ours had pre booked leave in the summer, If you cancel holiday for any reason the chances of getting booked leave when you want it is pretty poor.

I canceled my summer leave for domestic reasons and find that I cannot book any left over to a time I would prefer. Found this out the hard way.


And is why I am very dubious of the flexible attendances. You simply will not get back hourage when it suits you - its only if it suits RM. And I really don't want to be flexed down in the summer to find I am on a 10 stint in the winter. This will really up set my family commitments. Its hard enough doing a late shift with out it being totally mucked about with in this way.

If he did book after the dates were announced the he clearly shouldn't be the rep.(the minister should resign scenario comes to mind).

I feel guilty as I am on Holiday officially from Tomorrow but we have to book our holidays for one year (Apr to Apr) in Oct/Nov of the year before but they way you guys are posting you can put your requests in only a few weeks before your want it.

Don't feel guilty teebs, there's nothing you can do about annual leave. As for booking days off on strike days, if the rep has booked it months in advance then no worries. If not then all is not cosher. I'm a rep and i would never book holidays once i knew the strike days. Leading on the picket line is where they should be
