Can`t finish duty, will i get suspended?.

We have had the delivery method`s revision in our office for just two weeks and I haven't been able to complete my duty once!, I have told the DOM before commencing the duty and have been bringing the mail back, but today we have had the area manager down and good god you should have see the look on both their faces when I walked back in with the mail, just today two posties have been sent home suspended over door to door`s, am I next??, i`m worried sick, any help would be appreciated...

Nope you SHOULD not get suspended as long as you followed the correct procedure.

You will sadly, however, be put under pressure so I would start recording stuff in a diary. When you told them, where you finished delivery, what time you got back, who you told and saw on return etc.

Also if not in the Union, join, and get the rep involved and get their advice.

Why ask that. It may be a background issue but it shouldn't affect what advice you can give. Unless of course you wish to make the divide between FT and PT worse than it is.

Under normal circumstances, if correct procedures have been followed no conduct action will be taken against individuals if it is not possible to deliver all the mail by their scheduled finish time. Where failure to complete is a regular occurrence on a delivery, a joint examination will be undertaken to understand why this is and how the issue will be jointly addressed.

next time ring your manager up at 2ish and say look iam not going to get finished. you only have to work to your time

if i was you id say look pal this walk is far too big iam not completing and your going to have to take two loops off this a day (say before you go out) these scumbag managers want you to feel scared and feel you should be completing .

do not worry ask your union rep and he will tell you theres not a thing you can do

if you get any more grief use your trolly slowly all the way round take breaks and bring mail back then you have worked to rule nothing to worry about

Quite possibly the worst advice I have ever seen given on here.
Just gives them more ammunition to tar us all as workshy.

Make sure you know the overrunning deliveries procedure.
Are you getting out on time? Is the problem indoor or outdoor or both?
How are your attendance calls?

As your revision has only gone in any problems should be highlighted to both your manager and your rep and dealt with during the PIR phase.

Should a manager or line manager ( staff with authority unlike phg) wait to make sure there last postman is back safe and secure and that there has not been any issue of anyone not being able to complete and has returned with mail?

surely pissing off knowing anyone is late back is not being very carefull?

Pretty poor advice really on an open forum, you should be using the equipment provided regardless, and you need to inform mangament before you go out, if you cant complete.

What about unforeseen circumstances - such as breakdown, accident, police incident. there is a process in the OPG Overrunning Deliveries Procedure specifically for when delivery has commenced, and your managers should be made aware of it.

Jimmy there is no 1 hour rule other than possibly locally at your office.
The overrunning deliveries procedure states...

In addition to recording the employee’s request, the employee will be instructed to ring his/her local manager prior to a specified time or as soon as possible if full completion of delivery workload within the time allotted proves not to be possible.

You should always try to inform management prior to commencement of delivery if you think you are unable to complete the delivery inside your contracted hours.
This gives management a chance to resource the issue.
You should always have a witness,preferably your rep.

If you believe once on delivery that you cannot complete the delivery inside your contracted hours,you should attempt to contact a manager as soon as that becomes apparent.
This gives management another chance to resource the issue.

If you follow these rules there should be no conduct issues arising from bringing back mail.
Overtime is not compulsory and despite what managers say there is no rule saying you deliver what you take out no matter the amount,time or circumstances.

There is a section in mail integrity that says there is an expectation that once out on delivery you will be able to complete the delivery but expectations don't always materialise depending on the circumstances.
