Sorting "to the frame"

Post by zzeezzy »

Hello there,

I'm a new postie who has been doing the job for a week (with a "trainer officer" as they call it, going round shadowing and doing bits and bobs of a "heavy-duty trolley round as they call it).

As I'm not familiar with the roads of the area the office covers I don't understand what "sorting to the frame actually means", in my mind it makes no logical sense when I see the roads on there. Can anyone explain this and the approach they take to sort if they don't know the roads or area they are going to be doing (this week in my case, I am on a shared van round).

Thanks.

i'm guessing that they mean when you tie up the round, i'd say "tie it up to the frame" if so,

you should have loops 1a&1b 2a&2b and so on, it don't matter if 2a is away from 1b as you drive to each loop.
if, like our office 99.9% of the frames were cocked up by the planner, some maybe still wrong and in some cases you may have to pull the mail out different to how its prepped in the frame,
i.e there could be a street that's further up the frame that needs to be added to an earlier loop to try and equal them.
if in doubt just ask your oppo,
have fun and don't race round if your oppo always seems to be waiting at the van, you'll only end up making mistakes

Yes that's what I'm referring to, when it comes to tieing up and bagging the round.

When you mention these loops 1a&1b etc etc, where does it give u that information? On my previous frame I was working on I only saw the house roads and numbers. Unless I missed it.

HCT walks don't have loops, although you might have replenishment bag drops (normally marked on the frame)

Most walks are planned to take you in a circular route, so you minimise the amount of dead walking you'll do

i can only say this about 2 d/o but at the start the 1st few slots of each loop should/could be marked in a different colour, 1a which is bundled up to 1b, then 1b to 2a then 2a to 2b and so on,
if the labels were ordered/adjusted correctly it should be idiot proof for anyone to tie up the whole duty, of course this doesn't allow for any new build or personal tweaks i may do depending on packets

Try looking in the walk log which should be located on the top of the frame. You should have a copy of the "Flight Path" for your walk giving the loops and where to park the Van and a Map. Log book should also list hazards on walk and location od toilet facilities.

Ideally, each loop should be marked on the frame. On ours, you have pink to pink and then yellow to yellow and then pink to pink and then yellow to yellow (that makes 4 loops) and so on...

However, it is not always like that - especially where the frame has been modified - the colour marking might not have been put in.

You are actually in luck working in a shared van and Park & Loop - your partner could easily explain the loops to you in less than 5 minutes and if it is straightforward in less than 1 minute. And your partner will most likely be driving - and could easily point you in the right direction. "this is your bag and you go that way, mind this, watch out for that and meet back here when you have finished" - job done!
